UFC 126: Jon Fitch Vs. Jake Ellenberger Targeted for Super Bowl Weekend
How do you not like Dana White and Joe Silva sometimes?
First, they hook up some sick fights for this and the next few months in MMA, then Dana makes the merger official—meaning that the 135-pounders and 145-pounders are finally coming to the UFC, and now on a card that will be headlined by a UFC middleweight title fight between Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort, they cook up another sick fight for the loaded Super Bowl weekend card.
MMA Junkie reports that while the fight has yet to be confirmed, UFC welterweight mainstay Jon Fitch could face fast-rising up-and-comer Jake Ellenberger in what should be a very entertaining bout.
Never thought you'd hear the phrase "very entertaining" in the same sentence as the name "Jon Fitch," did you?
If that's you, don't worry.
People have had their doubts about the former Purdue standout and Guerrilla jiu-jitsu black belt.
Fitch has finished fights before, but for the longest time, he's made himself known as a grinder—a "methodical dismemberment machine," as I like to say about Fitch often times.
In others' words, Fitch is a guy who "lays and prays," but the fact is that whether you understand the style or not, Fitch's style is one in which he is able to dominate his opponent without having to actually finish the fight.
He better be careful, though, because Jake Ellenberger could repeat the events of his last fight in what could be the biggest fight of his career thus far.
Remember, Fitch is coming off of a unanimous decision win at UFC 117 against Thiago Alves in which the Brazilian once again brought out the best Jon Fitch we've ever seen, but Ellenberger is coming of of a nasty TKO-by-Stoppage win over John "Doomsday" Howard at the last UFC on Versus.
If he can do that to a rising upstart like Doomsday and get a win from it, imagine what Ellenberger might be capable of doing to a perennial welterweight title contender like Fitch.
