MMA Newsflash: Brock Lesnar Still Second Best Heavyweight in the World
When Brock Lesnar lost to Cain Velasquez last Saturday not only did it signal the end of Brocktober, but also it was cause for celebration for a host of anti-Brockers who took to the streets en masse to celebrate the end of the "most reviled era in the history of MMA."
Well, I've got news for you: Brock Lesnar is still the second best heavyweight in the world.
When I speak of the "most reviled era in the history of MMA," I of course, speak of this in contrast to what some see as the golden age of MMA, which supposedly occurred somewhere in between Pride Bushido 9 and Pride Final Conflict 2005.
Obviously this is a load of crap, as we all should know by now that the level of fighter now is way higher than it was back then. I digress.
Anyway, my point is that even though Lesnar lost, it doesn't mean that he was exposed.
I got some comments today saying that Lesnar's loss to a more well-rounded fighter should have snapped us back into the reality where Fedor Emelianenko is God, and being more well-rounded is always going to beat the kind of raw power of a guy like Lesnar.
That also is pure garbage.
Velasquez didn't beat Lesnar because he's well-rounded.
He beat Lesnar because he's well-rounded and also a terrific wrestler.
The other thing that people forget is that not only is Lesnar powerful, but he's also a very good wrestler in his own right.
Overeem and Fedor aren't going to be able to stop Lesnar's wrestling, and I have no reason to believe that Lesnar couldn't do to Werdum the same thing he did to Frank Mir.
So, enjoy your frolicking while you can, Brock Haters, because soon you'll have to wake up and realize that Fedor lost, and Brock Lesnar is still the second best heavyweight in the world.
