NFL Scores Week 7: Top 10 Fantasy Football Performers
Week 7 in the NFL was a very high scoring week. That, of course, means there are a lot of fantasy points to go around.
Several players put up huge numbers this week. Some were huge surprises, like WR David Gettis of the Carolina Panthers and WR Kenny Britt of the Tennessee Titans. Some were stars who were performing up to their talent level, like WR Roddy White of the Atlanta Falcons and RB Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings.
Then, there were a few veteran players who put up points like it was 2004, including QB Carson Palmer of the Cincinnati Bengals, WR Hines Ward of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and RB Thomas Jones of the Kansas City Chiefs.
Here's a look at the top 10 fantasy football performers for Week 7.
10. Hines Ward, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers
1 of 10
Apparently, Hines Ward just needed to get Ben Roethlisberger back on the field in order to return to fantasy prominence.
Ward put up 131 yards and a touchdown in the Steelers' narrow victory over the Miami Dolphins.
Look for numbers like this to continue as long as Big Ben is on the field.
9. Thomas Jones, RB, Kansas City Chiefs
2 of 10
Thomas Jones ran for 125 yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. He also scored a touchdown on this acrobatic leap.
I would advise a cautious approach for Jones the rest of the year though, as he is splitting carries with Jamaal Charles.
Also, a huge chunk of Jones's yards came on one big run.
Don't expect numbers like this from Jones every week, but he's still a good flex spot back.
8. Washington Redskins D/ST
3 of 10
DeAngelo Hall intercepted Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler four times on Sunday and returned one for a touchdown, single-handedly making the Redskins' defense a juggernaut this week.
But credit is also due for the defensive line, who kept Cutler moving around and uncomfortable in the pocket all game long.
Don't expect this every week from a Redskins team that hasn't played the pass very well this year. They benefitted from a horrible game by Jay Cutler, who reverted to his 2009 form in this loss.
7. David Gettis, WR, Carolina Panthers
4 of 10
David Gettis was probably the biggest surprise of Week 7.
The rookie wide receiver out of Baylor caught eight passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday, helping the Carolina Panthers to their first win of the 2010 campaign.
This was by far the best game of Gettis's young career, so proceed with caution from here on out. Also, keep in mind that Matt Moore is the QB for Carolina, and is prone to horrible games every now and then.
6. Carson Palmer, QB, Cincinnati Bengals
5 of 10
Carson Palmer had one of the best games of his career on Sunday, throwing for 412 yards and three touchdowns.
Unfortunately, it was all for naught, as the Bengals' comeback attempt fell short against the Atlanta Falcons.
This was the type of high-powered offense the Bengals were expecting when they signed Terrell Owens in the offseason. Don't expect these kinds of numbers from Palmer every week, but this was a good sign moving forward. He could be worth a start against teams with weaker pass defenses.
5. Adrian Peterson, RB, Minnesota Vikings
6 of 10
Lost in the disappointment of the Vikings' 28-24 loss to the Packers on Sunday night was the strong play by Adrian Peterson.
Peterson ran for 131 yards and a touchdown, a very average day for him.
But, just because it's an average day for him doesn't mean it's any less important for his fantasy owners.
Expect numbers like this or even better for the rest of the year, as the Vikings will lean heavily on Peterson as Brett Favre wears down.
4. Lee Evans, WR, Buffalo Bills
7 of 10
Lee Evans torched the Baltimore Ravens' secondary for 105 yards and three touchdowns on Sunday.
It was Evans' best performance in a long time, and the Bills offense finally showed some explosiveness.
Unfortunately, their defense couldn't hold off the Ravens, and the Bills still lost 37-34 in overtime.
This was Evans' second straight double-digit fantasy game, so maybe he's turning things around. He's worth starting at your third WR slot against weaker opponents.
3. Roddy White, WR, Atlanta Falcons
8 of 10
We all know Roddy White is a stud wide receiver.
Still, he deserves praise for his effort on Sunday, when he gained 201 yards, caught two touchdown passes, and caught a key two point conversion.
His effort was even more impressive when you factor in how close the Bengals came to making an amazing comeback.
White, of course, is capable of exploding like this on any given Sunday. Therefore, continue starting him regardless of who the opponent is.
2. Kenny Britt, WR, Tennessee Titans
9 of 10
Kenny Britt had a monstrous game for the Tennessee Titans, catching seven passes for 225 yards and three touchdowns.
It's even more impressive considering who was throwing to him. Kerry Collins got the start at QB, as Vince Young is battling an injury that might sideline him for another week or so.
It's a good situation for Collins when he has a big receiver like Britt who can take over a game like he did Sunday.
Britt is becoming a must-start wide receiver, and I would start him until he gives you a reason to bench him.
1. Darren McFadden, RB, Oakland Raiders
10 of 10
Welcome back from injury, Mr. McFadden.
McFadden, sidelined by injury the past few weeks, came back in a huge way against the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
He ran for 165 yards and three touchdowns in the Raiders' 59-14 shellacking of the Broncos.
McFadden was putting up big numbers before his injury, and it looks like he hasn't lost a step. Continue starting him against any opponent.
