10 EPL Transfers For January

Kieran KinsellaNov 2, 2010

The transfer window is fast approaching and teams are weighing up their options. Liverpool are in desperate need of help after a dreadful start to the season, and Man United should spend money to stay in the title race. Gerard Houllier and Avram Grant seldom let a transfer window pass without wholesale changes, and Man City are still enjoying the new found novelty of blowing money.

The media link new players with transfers every day, but there are 10 players who are sure to find new clubs in January.

Fernando Torres

Since winning Euro 2008, things gave gone downhill quickly for Fernando Torres. He was an unwanted extra as Spain won the World Cup and clearly feels his club are to blame for his shocking loss of form.

Roy Hodgson happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, but Fernando is pointing the finger of blame at his long ball tactics. Man Utd have been linked with the Spaniard but his transfer fee will scare off Fergie. Expect to see Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Man City battle it our for Torres.

Michael Owen

Michael Owen has quickly evolved from a Galactico into a journeyman. Man Utd signed him to replace injury prone Louis Saha. The Frenchman is enjoying a new lease of life at Everton, while Owen has picked up where he left off as the out of form has-been at Utd. Owen is not quite ready to hang his boots up yet, and Gerard Houllier believes that they can reunite and have some more adventures together at Aston Villa.

Johnny Heitinga

It was all going so well for Heitinga until he upset Howard Webb during the World Cup final. Since he returned to Everton, he has been a disinterested spectator and in a recent interview he made a "come and get me" plea to Bayern Munich.

The German side have distanced themselves from the Holland star, but David Moyes has no time for another Dutch troublemaker after five years working with Andy Van Der Meyde. His options in England are limited but he may find a new home in Italy.

Piennar came to Everton in an effort to rebuild his career and things have gone so well that he is now ready to ditch the Toffeemen to move elsewhere.

Luckily for David Moyes, Pienaar is a modern day Juninho: skilled but ineffective. Arsene Wenger and Harry Redknapp are suitably impressed with the diminutive African, with Everton opting to sell him rather than see him walk for free in June.

Jo Must Go

He seemed like a good signing at the time, but Man City have moved on to bigger and better things. Jo has featured just enough this season to have restored some credibility after a dismal 2009/10 season.

The Brazilian lacks the efficiency to make an impact in England and none of the teams in the other major leagues are foolish enough to take him on. For whatever reason, Jo did well in Russia and he is likely to return there in January to prepare for their new season.

Niko Kranjcar

Having worked with Harry Redknapp at Portsmouth, Niko Kranjcar must have known that the Spurs boss would get tired of his face sooner rather than later. Harry likes to shuffle his deck more often than a dealer in Vegas, and it is time for Kranjcar to move on. The Croatian has admirers on Merseyside but Gerard Houllier and Avram Grant will be the first in line to sign him.

Shay Given

Some people are just too good to sit on the bench, and Shay Given will find a club willing to give him some playing time in January. He lost the battle for the City number one spot with Joe Hart, but there are half a dozen teams willing to offer him first team football.

Charlie Adam

Blackpool fans will not be happy, but Ian Holloway would rather cash in on Charlie Adam than allow his contract to expire. Whether he goes in January or July, he is going to earn twice as much at a bigger club. Expect Newcastle and Sunderland to lead the queue of admirers at the turn of the year.

Emmanuel Adebayor

Not so long ago Adebayor blamed Arsenal for all his problems, but things have not gone well for him at City. He expressed a desire to leave early in the season, and Roberto Mancini is not his biggest fan. The Togo man will happily trade Eastlands for the San Siro and Champions League football in January.

John Carew

The arrival of Gerard Houllier as manager has not helped the career of John Carew. He had fallen out of favor with previous boss Martin O'Neill, and the Frenchman seems happy to pick up where the Northern Irish man left off. Opportunities in England will be scarce for the veteran, so a return to Scandinavia beckons.
