College Football Crapshoot: My Auburn Tiger is Better Than Yours

Alfred KonuwaOct 22, 2010

[Week 7 Crappy Record: 5-1]

[Cumulative Crappy Record: 31-11]

The College Football Crapshoot continues to be on some kind of roll as my A.D.D. philosophy has lead me to yet another winning week.

Ooh look, a video!

Crappy Video of the Week: Obligatory goal post bombardment in Wisconsin following victory over No. 1 Ohio State.

HERE'S WHAT I KNOW WILL HAPPEN...

I KNOW Michigan State will beat Northwestern outright. Sure, many may see this as a lookahead game as the Spartans prepare to play Iowa, and Northwestern has overachieved thus far, but this will be the first ranked opponent that the Wildcats will play amidst a weak schedule.  Personally, I just don't trust that rushing defense against one of the better running teams in the nation.

Michigan State learned its lesson about overlooking Northwestern last year, after a 24-14 loss to the Wildcats, and the No. 8 team in the nation will be seeking revenge for last year's home defeat.

Look for Michigan State to have their hands full, but I still like the Spartans to pull off a relatively tricky win.

I KNOW Stanford (-36.5) will cover against Washington State.
With two weeks to prepare at home against a mediocre Washington State team, expect Stanford to continue its surge toward a possible Pac-10 championship.  After a bad loss at Oregon, Stanford no longer has room for error and they will need to beat teams like Washington State convincingly if they even want their name called when it comes to the BCS title picture.

Andrew Luck should have a field day against a Washington State defense that couldn't stop elementary students with an orange jacket and an octagon.  Stanford rolls at home.

HERE'S WHAT I THINK IS GOING TO HAPPEN...

I THINK Auburn (-5.5) will cover against LSU. And cover big time.  We've been following these cardiac cats closely this season, and not only are they ripe for a loss, they are ripe for a blowout loss.

With a string of inflated emotional victories, followed up with the "surprising" no-cover at home against the lowly McNeese State Cowboys (called by yours truly in the Crapshoot last week), the time has come for every flaw in LSU's game to be tastefully exposed by a team that is emerging as the best in the SEC (not that that means as much as it once did).

The Tigers defense was forced into a shootout last week against the high octane Razorbacks.  Don't expect the same fate against a team that struggled offensively against inferior competition all year.

The Auburn Tigers will get out to an early lead at home, force turnovers by whoever LSU sticks in there at quarterback, and win in a rout.  I think.

I THINK Iowa (-6.5) will cover vs. Wisconsin.
Emotional victory isn't the word for what the Badgers will be coming off of having beaten the No. 1 team in the league at home.  Now, the Badgers must play the underrated Iowa Hawkeyes with the Big Ten officially wide open.

Expect the Hawkeyes to capitalize on an emotionally drained Wisconsin team en route to one of those boring, grind it out, Big Ten victories at home.  I think.

HERE'S WHAT I'M PROBABLY WRONG ABOUT...

I'M PROBABLY WRONG, but Nebraska will rebound and beat Oklahoma State outright. Coming off of a tough loss to a Texas team that had two weeks to prepare, expect a re-focused Nebraska team to stifle Oklahoma State's offense and pull off a much needed win on the road.

Oklahoma State is far from battle tested, and against its toughest opponent this season, not to mention the toughest defense they will play all year, I expect the Cornhuskers to stop the Cowboys' dead in their tracks.  Look for Nebraska to get the better part of a defensive struggle (ugh) as they look to keep a possible Big 12 Title from slipping through their fingers.

I'M PROBABLY WRONG, BUT Tennessee (+17) will cover vs. Alabama.
Playing their second road game in three weeks, one week before what figures to be a showdown against LSU (for now), the Tide will be prone to a trap game as a competitive Volunteers team attempts to protect its orange, checkered field.  Tennessee tends to play up to the level of its opponents, especially in the SEC.

Just last year, the Vols were a field goal away from unseating the Tide, although that team did have more talent, and they will be motivated at home by the revenge factor against a rival SEC school.

The Volunteers should be good to fight to the end in this one, giving the Crimson Tide a scare or, dare I say, a loss thus facilitating the annual and eventual BCS implosion.
