James EvensOct 20, 2010

This weekend at UFC 121, Brock Lesnar will be facing Cain Velasquez in a heavyweight fight for the championship. This has been one of the most anticipated fights in UFC history due to the build up to this fight.

Both fighters have something to prove in this one, and it has all the makings of an instant classic.

Brock Lesnar, the 6'3" 265 pound monster, sports a record of 5-1 featuring two knockouts, two submissions and one decision. Lesnar has a wrestling background, but is also able to smother opponents with earth-shattering punches that would knock out the strongest.

Velasquez, who stands at 6'2" and 245 pounds, has a professional record of 8-0 featuring seven knockouts and one decision. Velasquez also has a wrestling background, which will cause this to be an interesting fight.  Both fighters will need to adjust to the other to be able to take control of this fight.

Velasquez is a pretty well-rounded fighter.  In college at Arizona State, Vasquez finished fifth and fourth in 2005 and 2006 in the NCAA Division One championship. In 2005 he was also recognized as the PAC 10 wrestler of the year.

After leaving Arizona State in 2006 he decided to pursue a career in mixed martial arts.  From 2006 to now he has fought eight fights and won all eight with seven knock outs and one decision. His latest fight in late February was against Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira, a very experienced fighter who has fought over 30 fights. His knock out Nogueira was very impressive.

Velasquez is one of only five fighters in UFC history to have a winning percentage of 1.000 after at least six fights.  He puts this record on the line against a man some say will go down as the greatest UFC heavyweight of all time, Brock Lesnar.

Lesnar is one of the most recognizable faces in mixed martial arts and comes in with a record of 5-1. In his collegiate career, Lesnar wrestled for the Minnesota Golden Gophers.  Throughout his career he was a two-time All-American, and in 2000 was the NCAA heavyweight champion.

After his career at Minnesota, Lesnar pursued a well-documented career in professional wrestling. After his stint with the WWE, and a brief attempt to play in the NFL, Lesnar decided to pursue a career in mixed martial arts.

After fighting a fight in Japan, Lesnar joined the UFC and lost to a much more experienced Frank Mir.  Lesnar would later move on to defeat Mir in brutal fashion just a few years later.

Lesnar is one of the biggest athletes the sport has ever seen—not only is he big but he is athletic, and he could play almost any sport.  Just look at his attempt to join the NFL without any prior football experience.

Lesnar is currently the champion but will face his biggest test against Velasquez.

This fight will be a fight for the ages.  Both guys come in sporting huge egos and are arguably the two best fighters in the game.  Lesnar has been tired of hearing that he doesn't deserve to have the title, and Velasquez is ready to prove that.

If Velasquez wins this fight it will be a huge win not only for him but for his country.  Lesnar is ready to step up and shut up Velasquez and prove once and for all who is the best fighter in the heavyweight division.

Why Lesnar Will Win

Lesnar comes into the fight as the champion and it will stay that way.  Although Velasquez is a great fighter, Lesnar's shear size and strength will be enough to win the fight.  Look for Lesnar to try to take the fight to the ground, due to Velasquez's knockout ability.  Once Lesnar gets him to the ground it will be all but done.

Lesnar will retain as champion via submission.
