Boxing: Is Bob Arum on Manny Pacquiao's Side or Antonio Margarito's?

Troy SparksOct 17, 2010

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum represents both Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito.  Since they will fight each other November 13, whom does Arum want to win?

It seems that Arum is losing confidence in his boy Pacquiao.  Maybe the Pac Man is simply being used as leverage in the attempted negotiations between his other fighter and the idle Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

According to BoxingNews.com, Arum said that Margarito is not to be underestimated, and he warned Pacquiao.  Margarito is working hard to stay on top of his game against Pacquiao, even if it means pushing himself harder in his workouts.

If Margarito is upping his intensity in training, it won't help when Pacquiao is all over him like white on rice.

Is Arum, like everybody else, concerned about Pacquiao's lack of respect for his upcoming opponent because he's playing basketball more and sparring less?

Boxing fans should be reminded that Mike Tyson didn't take Buster Douglas seriously, and look what happened in that fight.

I don't think Pacquiao is underestimating Margarito enough to scale back on his training.  It might do Pacquiao some good to cut back in case he calls it quits after the next fight.

Arum is talking up Margarito like he's actually going to beat Pacquiao.  Of course, when he has two fighters in his camp brawling for the vacant WBC Junior Middleweight title, it's a win-win for the company.

Normally, I would talk up Mayweather too, but he's not doing anything meaningful right now.  Let me know when he's back in action after he signs with Don King and they sign the deal to fight Pacquiao.
