Tennessee Titans at The Dallas Cowboys: NFL Week 5 Preview and Prediction

Brandon GriffinOct 7, 2010

The week the Tennessee Titans (2-2) head to Dallas to take on the Cowboys (1-2) at the new Cowboy Stadium for the first time.

The Titans come off of a tough loss to the Denver Broncos last Sunday at home and are out to get some confidence and another win against an NFC team. The Titans have won 10 straight games against the NFC dating back to Oct. 2007 when the lost to Tampa Bay 13-10.

Each team has had its own share of disappointment this season as Chris Johnson has been held under 100 yards in two out of four games this year, and the Cowboys haven't got off to the great start that most of the sports world expected of this star studded team.

Having problems isn't an issue really it is all about how the teams deal with the adversity. The Cowboys dealt with a tough Week 1 loss by coming out and getting beat by the Bears. They then came back in Week 3 and put it to the Houston Texans who just so happens to be leading the AFC South.

The Titans have been a little worse with dealing with adversity thus far. When the opposing teams are shutting down Johnson the Titans just continue to attempt to run the ball time and time again. It is almost like clockwork for the Titans offense to hand the ball of then try to throw the ball on third down usually to no avail because the defenses are expecting it and Vince Young doesn't get enough attempts to really build chemistry with the receivers.

The Titans bright spot this week comes in the form of starting linebacker Gerald McRath returning from a four game suspension for use of performance enhancing drugs. McRath is a solid tackler and should help the Titans stop the three headed giant that is Marion Barber, Felix Jones and Tashard Choice in the Cowboy backfield.

Cortland Finnegan should be even more angry and fired up than ever after being talked about by Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton who said he wasn't good he is just dirty, and that could be bad news for Tony Romo who is a proven problematic quarterback. Alterraun Verner will be getting his second start this week in place of injured cornerback Jason McCourty who is still out with a broken forearm, and should be even better now that he has some gametime experience under his belt.

The Titans should be able to pull this game out on the ground, but if Johnson gets stopped they can't be afraid to let Vince Young open up and try to spread out the field.

I believe at the end of the day the Titans will extend their NFC winning streak to 11 as Johnson racks up more than 120 yards on the ground.
