Five-Star College Football Recruit Nick O'Leary: Miami, FSU, or Alabama Lead?

Michael PintoOct 5, 2010

Five-Star TE Nick O'Leary was one of many blue-chip recruits in attendance for the Alabama-Florida game in Tuscaloosa and updated his status after the game with some interesting tidbits.

Along with big names like Isaiah Crowell, Tony Steward, and Tim Jernigan, O'Leary was there for his official visit with the Crimson Tide and came away from the experience pleased.

"I went to Alabama this weekend," O'Leary said. "It was really fun. It was a good experience. Alabama is really awesome. They talked to me about being a move-around guy, with some blocking and move around more to catch some balls."

O'Leary might be the best tight end in the 2011 class. He's a receiver and lineman mixed into one body, ranking as the No. 1 prospect at his position on Rivals and the No. 2 prospect on Scout.

While Miami and Florida State have long been considered the West Palm Beach native's top two schools, but we're a long way from the finish line in this one.

After listing Florida State, Miami, Alabama, LSU, Georgia, and North Carolina as his favorites last month, O'Leary appears to have cut the Bulldogs and Tar Heels out of the picture.

"It is probably down to FSU, Alabama, Miami, and LSU. Wisconsin is in it too," O'Leary said.

He declined to rank his options, but has two official visits scheduled and will probably be in attendance for the Miami-FSU game this weekend.

O'Leary is traveling to Wisconsin for an official visit on Oct. 16 for the Badgers game against Ohio State. Then he'll head to Baton Rouge for another key SEC matchup when LSU and Alabama face off.

The coveted tight end has made it clear that his decision will be based on available playing time and a strong relationship with the coaching staff at his eventual home. But Dwyer quarterback Jacoby Brissett, O'Leary's friend and teammate, plays into the equation as well.

"Me and Jacoby are going to try to go to the same school for sure," O'Leary said. "It is something we would like to do."

Miami and Alabama aren't in a position to bring the pair in as a package deal, but neither school is on Brissett's radar anyway.

The three-star quarterback has narrowed his choices down to Wisconsin, LSU, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida State, and USF, but Louisville and West Virginia are still possibilities as well.

It might come down to Brissett's decision in this matter, which would give the advantage to FSU and LSU.

As far as playing time and coaching staffs, O'Leary seems most comfortable with the situation in Miami and Alabama though.

Both O'Leary and Brissett are in no hurry to make a decision and will likely wait until the U.S. Army All-American Game to announce their commitments.
