UEFA Champions League Matchday 2 Preview, Group C: September 29, 2010

Valencia vs Manchester United

Valencia’s domestic season has been off to a good start and if they can carry this form over to the Champions League then Man Utd could have a bit of a fight on their hands, Valencia are the current leaders of La Liga which speaks volumes about the way they have been playing and with the home field advantage they have every chance of winning this match.

Man Utd could be seeing the return of Carrick from his Achilles tendon injury; the away side should also see Scholes and fit again Rio Ferdinand in the side. On the other hand, Rooney, Valencia, and Giggs will all miss the match.

Manchester United are set to play a possession based game with Alex Ferguson stating that “keeping the ball is key” when it comes to playing against Spanish sides, and he has a point: Valencia can be very dangerous on the break and any mistakes that United make could be severely punished by a team which seems to be really hitting it’s stride this season.

This match could quickly become either a brilliant or terrible game. The problem is that United have been playing the long ball game a lot recently and with them not wanting to give the ball away we could see a slow match but an early goal could change this dynamic entirely.

Rangers vs Bursaspor

Rangers picked up a good point away from home against United and they are breaking a few conventions with the team that they are putting out, not least of these being the fact that David Weir is still playing competitive football at the highest level.

Most people say that you cannot play in the top flight at the age of 40, but watching his brilliant performance against Man United should silence a few critics. This time the former Everton man will have to contain Yildrim and this will be a battle which highlights the epitome of "youth vs experience."

Rangers will be looking to hold the Bursaspor attack off and catch them off guard. Walter Smith might have a difficult time managing the fans expectations after a good result at United, but the manager has said that he nor his team have any delusions of grandeur.

Bursaspor may be looking to pick up a few points against Rangers. The fact is that whilst they will be playing a defensive game they will be looking to net quick goal and sit back on it. Playing an attacking game could result in Rangers catching them on the break.
