Strikeforce: K.J. Noons Doesn't Have Respect For Nick Diaz As a Person

Andrew GladstoneSep 28, 2010

Earlier today, Nick Diaz was scheduled to speak on the Strikeforce media conference call opposite his opponent K.J. Noons, but was a no show.

But first, it was announced on the call that there will be a one hour documentary featuring the last three fights of both Diaz and Noons tonight on Showtime 2 at 10:10 pm ET.

Noons wasted no time on the call in showing his disgust in Diaz for not showing up and called him unprofessional.

"I've got respect for Nick as a fighter, he has a good style" Noons said.

"I like watching his fights, I like watching his brother fight.  Styles make matches.  I've got respect for him as a fighter, I don't have respect for him as a person."

Noons also brought up the first encounter with Diaz and indicated how he had to change his entire game plan once the fight started.

"The whole camp, I trained to come forward and make him fight backwards because Nick Diaz never fights backwards.  He only fights forwards, he probably can't fight backwards.  His defense is his offense."

At one point of the call, Noons was asked if after the fight that him and Diaz would let bygones be bygones after the final bell sounds.

"Who knows, after this fight we might fight again.  We're both young, he keeps winning and I keep winning.  The ball is pretty much in his court.  I don't like the guy personally but I like to watch him fight and I like to watch his brother fight."

"From different people I've heard he's a really nice guy.  I believe I'm a nice guy, if you're with me and we're kicking it in the bar, we'll get a beer, I'm a dude so is he.  But when he pulls sh** like this, doesn't show up on a conference call, it's f***ing hard to like a guy like that.  When he punks off, or you got your family involved and sh*t like that, you just want to slap this mother f***** sometimes."

"I'm a cool dude, I have no problem when I see him.  I don't have no animosity towards him where I'm going to rush him to fight him.  I don't hate nobody, but I guess the ball is in his court."

Later on in the call Diaz's trainer Cesar Gracie came in and told the media how Diaz wouldn't be on the call.

"Nick doesn't really does the conference call with the guy he's fighting type of thing, he's to busy training to be on the phone or anything like that right now," Gracie said.

At one point in the call Gracie was asked if Diaz still has bad blood over the loss to Noons.

"I don't think he's got time for that, like it's not something that's been bothering him over the years, he's been really busy fighting.  He pretty much has bad blood for everybody who steps in the cage with him though, that's what motivates him, it's not a personal thing.  The Diaz brothers mindset is they're going to battle, they're not friends with the person they're fighting, they wouldn't fight a friend.  Good, bad, or whatever, Nick has got bad blood for anyone who steps in the cage across from him, that's what makes him exciting."
