Premier League 'Movers & Shakers: Week 6 Market Fallout!
Week 6 certainly shook up the credentials of the title contenders with Chelsea & Arsenal being beaten on Saturday and Man Utd failing to win away for the third match on the bounce this season. Had Utd lost to Bolton it would have been the first time since 2005 that Chelsea, Arsenal & Man Utd had lost on the same weekend.
But this week the so called relegation contenders showed their teeth with West Ham recording their first win of the season, but the performance of the week has to be WBA who took a shock 3-0 lead at the Emirates Stadium and despite a few nervous moments at the end, took all the points back to the West Midlands.
In the first slide-show of what I hope will be a weekly look at the movers & shakers in the Premier League betting markets following the results, plus an early bird look at week 7 matches.
The Winners Market
Man City's 1-0 victory over the Champions Chelsea at Eastlands on Saturday ensured they were the biggest movers in week 6 available at odds of 20/1 (21.0) going in last weekend's match, Roberto Mancini's men can now be backed at 9/1 (10.0) as the Premier League 'big spenders' flexed their muscle.
Following the game Chelsea drifted out to 6/5 (2.20) from 10/11 (1.91), but with both Arsenal and Man Utd dropping points the Champions returned to 10/11 (1.91). Arsenal were the biggest drifters this weekend, the did touch 5/1 (6.0) as a result of Chelsea's defeat, but the go into week 7 they are price slight under Man City at 8/1 (9.0).
Despite not winning Man Utd are slightly shorter than at the end of week 5, but the did touch 5/2 (3.50) on Saturday, before settling just under 3/1 at 3.90.
Week 7 Pointers
Chelsea clash with Arsenal on Sunday, Man Utd face a tough away trip to Sunderland and could be without Wayne Rooney who misses the Valencia trip with an ankle injury. This leaves us with the prospect that Man City could well come in further if they beat Newcastle and if any more points are dropped by the top three.
The Relegation Market
The shock result of the weekend was WBA at Arsenal and you could have got 28/1 (29.0) best price on Roberto Di Matteo's men coming away with all three points. This is a remarkable turn around for the newly promoted team who were 10/11 (1.91) for relegation following their opening day defeat at Stamford Bridge. This win has seen their price eased out to 4/1 (5.0) for relegation and with 10 points already in the bag its difficult to see them not beating the drop.
West Ham are another team who have eased in the market following their first win of the season over Spurs on Saturday and are out to 15/8 (2.88), but still way short of their pre-season quote of 5/1 (6.0).
Blackpool are once again on the slide and the pre-season relegation favourites have dropped below 1/2 (1.50) to go down at the first time of asking, but is history of their side? No team that had gained 7 points from their first 5 matches has ever been relegated, I guess there is a first time for everything!
Week 7 Pointers
Bottom team Everton, still without a win travel to Birmingham who remain unbeaten at home for 12 months, this will be a tough ask for the 'Toffees' to record their first win. They're still 24/1 (25.0) to go down and another defeat will see their price for the drop shorten considerably.
