Making the Greatest Light Heavyweight MMA Fighter
The Light Heavyweight division has always been considered one of the toughest divisions to dominate, with an abundance of talented fighters.
But if we could combine all of the best parts into a Light Heavyweight super-fighter, who would that be? What would we use? Let's find out:
Speed
1 of 11
Vitor Belfort
Vitor may have moved down to Middleweight, but he was at a time considered the future of the UFC light heavy weight division. Belfort is widely acknowledged as having the fastest hands in MMA.
Strength
2 of 11
Randy Couture
A prime Randy Couture out-grappled Tito and Chuck, and has even had a decent showing against juggernaunt Brock. Randy has great strength for a Light Heavyweight.
Cardio
3 of 11
Randy Couture
It's impossible to keep fighting into your late 40s without being a cardio machine. Randy’s main strategy was always to drag opposing fighters into a grueling war of attrition, where Randy would win by superior cardio.
Power
4 of 11
Chuck Liddell
Chuck has power, and when he landed, you were out. In his prime, Chuck just about finished anybody who stood in front of him. A steady decline has tainted the legacy of Chuck a bit, but there is no doubt that for a good period of time he was the best light heavyweight on the planet.
Jiu Jitsu
5 of 11
Shogun Rua
A good practitioner in the sense of scrambling back to his feet or reversing to a dominant position. Rua isn’t aggressive in searching for the submission but his ground game is great for a fighter who would like to get to his feet to use his power punches or top control GNP.
Stand-Up
6 of 11
Anderson Silva
With devastating accuracy and cat-like reflexes, Anderson Silva is, at the moment, pound-for-pound the best fighter on the planet. Twelve straight wins in the octagon is a record that may never be replicated.
Wrestling
7 of 11
Randy Couture
Randy Couture wears downs his opponents against the cage, negating much of his opponents' strengths. it’s a stifling tactic that lets Captain America continue to fight into his late forties.
Brain
8 of 11
Lyoto Machida
A strong, disciplined fighter, who before the Shogun fight looked unstoppable. Unflappable in danger, disciplined in his art, Machida looked to be beginning an era of dominance in the toughest division the UFC had to offer. Unfortunately, a chink in the armor was discovered by Shogun Rua, ending the Machida era prematurely.
Heart
9 of 11
Forrest Griffin
Many people ma not agree with this choice, but the man had the heart to take on Anderson Silva at his own game. Forrest has shown commendable bravery in the Rampage and Tito fights, and would fight anybody anytime.
Chin
10 of 11
Shogun Rua
Never-knocked-out Shogun has yet to even be visibly hurt by a shot. The shots he received from Machida didn't even faze him. Shogun has an iron chin, which allows him to be super aggressive.
