Boise State Football 2010: A Beatdown On The Blue Turf Awaits Oregon State

Daniel DinunzioSep 21, 2010

Boise State went on the road in week one and came from behind on Labor Day night to defeat a Virginia Tech team that was supposed to be one of the top teams in the country. Can you say overrated?

This Broncos team on the other hand hung 51 points on Wyoming last weekend and is going to continue their dominance Saturday night in their home-opener against Oregon State. The Beavers played TCU tough, but this Boise State team isn't losing a game this season.

Oregon State running back Jacquizz Rodgers is a player to keep your eye on come gametime. He is a speedster who hits the hole with power. A major obstacle opposing him will be a Boise State defensive line which ranks as one of the best in the country.

Too much experience and talent. Don't forget Chris Petersen is a big-time coach that brings in talented, top players to Boise, Idaho. It must be something about that Blue Turf. Coach Mike Reilly of Oregon State decided to paint their practice field Boise-blue in preparation for Saturday night.

They better get used to it, because Kellen Moore and the Broncos offense is going to be running up and down the field all night long. What's most intriguing about this matchup is this is by-far the strongest competition Boise State faces the rest of the season.

The only other game that could pose of any threat of an upset is at Nevada, who have already defeated California this year.

Doug Martin, D.J. Harper, and Jeremy Avery are part of a Broncos three-back rotation that will hit you from every angle. Each back excels in different areas whether it is strength or speed.

Titus Young and Austin Pettis are two of the best wide receivers in the country. Both have great hands and can flat out fly down the field. Oregon State's secondary better be prepared because Kellen Moore will fit the ball in the smallest of windows when throwing to his receivers.

Boise State defeated Oregon State 42-14 in 2006. I expect a similar result on Saturday. ESPN Gameday and company will be making the trip out to Idaho realizing what is at stake for the Broncos. They have to win, because one loss will end their hopes of playing for a national title.

Each and every game has that much significance as a powerhouse of the Western Athletic Conference. The big bad BCS spoiler needs to win in order to continue the debate and controversy in regards to whether or not this team is worthy of playing for a national championship.

Boise State is a 16.5 point favorite at home against Oregon State. That line may jump out as a surprise at first, but remember this Broncos team is ranked 3rd in both polls while Oregon State is a middle of the road Pac-10 school.

They have played a very tough out-of-conference schedule, but there's nothing they can do that will physically prepare them for what Boise State is going to hit them with come game-time.

Boise State has to make a statement here in front of a national audience. I don't expect Oregon State to have a realistic chance at winning once the fourth quarter starts. They had a tough time putting away Louisville.

The Broncos and the blue-smurf turf will run wild Saturday night.

Prediction: Boise State in a romp 45-17.
