Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray Play a Game Of Chess
It was a beautiful day, the kind of day that evoked a feeling of nostalgia, of being a child, ever so carefree. So that day Roger Federer contacted Rafael Nadal, and they agreed on a time to meet each other. Roger Federer, always a person of perfection, arrived early with his Rolex watch, looking at his time piece to determine the wait until his companion Rafael Nadal came. It wasn't a long time of waiting, but the look on Roger Federer's face by the time Rafael Nadal came was one of impatience. Rafael Nadal came hustling to Roger, and in his usual humble self, apologized.
The two got into Roger's personal white limousine. It was a well-sized automobile, with white seats, a telephone, two televisions manufactured by Sony, and even a desktop computer. Roger and Rafael sat a moment in silence, a moment just too long, which showed the two friends' subtle yet sure and steady rivalry against each other. But the two tennis titans warmed up without any hesitation.

Roger: So how's it going Rafa? I haven't seen you in a while.
Rafael: It's great, no? After I have won US Open I little restless.
Roger: Chicago is a great change from New York, isn't it? I no longer have to listen to the loud honks of Manhattan.
Rafael: For me it okay. Especially after I winning in New York. Every sound to me is beautiful. The sounds is people cheering for me against Novak.
Roger: Please don't mention anything about Novak, I've had enough memories I don't want to
remember.
Rafael: Okay, but you play well against Novak.
A moment of silence followed Rafael Nadal's consolation. Roger fumbled with the television, muttering something about "unplugged wires." Rafael Nadal, meanwhile, untied and tied his shoes. The limousine came to an abrupt halt, which surprised both Roger and Rafael. The two looked back to see if anything had happened behind, and the keen-eyed Roger spotted a male adult with a red nose, a party hate, make-up, and even a red wig! Next to the "clown" was a red-brown haired male with frizzy hair, not smiling, but not frowning. He came across as surly, but he didn't do anything do gain that impression.
Roger's brain suddenly clicked on, recovering from the ordeal of seeing a "clown." He realized it was none other than Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray. This realization prompted a shout from Federer, telling his chauffeur to speed up. It was nothing in the chauffeur's power to disobey, and the car zoomed ahead of the Porsche behind.![]()
Rafael, utterly baffled, spoke up.
Rafael: What is happened?
Roger: Do you know who was in the car behind us? It was Novak an Andy!
Rafael: Which Andy?
Roger: You know, Andy. Andy, uh, Murray.
Rafael: So why did you make the car go faster?
Roger: We don't want to meet them do we. After all, Novak is dressed as a clown!
Upon hearing this, Rafael burst into a fit of giggles, but hesitated after catching a glance from Roger, which queued to Rafael to stop at once.
The limousine finally came to a halt. The chauffeur opened the car doors, first the doors next to Roger, then the doors next to Rafael. The building adjacent was one of architectural beauty, surpassing the surrounding buildings by a mile. Federer smiled to himself, it was a grand structure designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the uncle of John Lloyd, who was the ex-husband of tennis legend Chris Evert. Rafael, not really a man of interest in the arts, didn't pay much attention to the grand masterpiece, but asked Roger what they were going to do in this "gray building."
Rafael: So what are we gonna do in here?
Roger: You know, eat, drink, hang out.
Rafael: What definition of 'hang out.'
Roger replied with the tiniest hint of a glimmer in his eye.
Roger: Hang out. Meaning, uh, socialize, perhaps play a game or two of... chess?
Rafael protested, claiming he didn't have any chess skills, but the mighty Swiss stood his ground. Suddenly, Roger and Rafael had to stop their conversation because they were interrupted with an incessant honking at them. Roger muttered to himself, saying that he thought "only in New York did people honk so rudely.
"Hey Roger and Rafa," a familiar voice called out.
The two froze. It couldn't be, but it sounded so much like Novak. Rafa was the first to recover from the shock.
Rafael: Who is it?
Novak: It's me, you know, your friend Novak.
Rafael: Really? You kidding me?
Novak: Really. And I came here with my pal Andy.
Rafael: Murray is it?
Novak: Yes, yes, of course.
Roger: We saw you behind us in our white limo as we drove here. What was with all your make up?
Novak: Oh, I was just clowning around. Do you want us to play a game of chess with you?
Andy: You're right Novak, let us play.
Roger: All right, all right. In fact, you know, I was about to play chess with Rafa.
Rafael: That is right. This is funny, no? You all want to play chess, no? But not me.
Roger: Whatever, don't listen to what the guy says. Majority rules!
The four tennis players entered the building, and finally reached the elevator after a long stroll along the carpeted hallway. Roger got inside the elevator first, and pressed the button labeled 16, the top floor. But the other people had other thoughts as to what floor to go.
Rafael: No, I think we should go to floor 9.
Novak: I think the 1st floor is better.
Andy: No way! The ground floor is the best. After all, it is on the ground. I hate to admit, but...
Novak: You are scared of heights. Ha!
Roger: Stop arguing all of you. I have the most grand slams, so the 16th floor it is.
The other three obeyed, but not without groaning and moaning their way back into the elevator. The elevator opened up into a marble lobby, with a magnificent chandelier hanging down on the green and beige leather sofas. There was a restaurant called "Chef Chest Chess," which the four men entered. The atmosphere was that of a night match in Arthur Ashe Stadium. Rafael, Novak, and Andy were glad they didn't go to a different floor.
A waiter approached the men as they got into their seats.
Waiter: What would you like, sirs?
Roger: It's okay, we don't need anything.
Waiter: Then I am sorry, but according to our restaurant rules, we have to be paid. Otherwise, no people can enter the restaurant.
Roger: Hold it there. I have enough money, and also my three friends here, to pay you as much as you need.
Waiter: Sorry, sir, but "Chef Chest Chess" doesn't take bribes.
Roger: It's not a bribe, its a gift!
Waiter: Fine. Wouldn't you want to give you anything?
Roger: A chess board, perhaps?
Waiter: Okay, in fact, we have different types of chess pieces. There are metal, plastic, red, blue, green, etcetera.
Roger: Hmm, that's a tough choice. Do you have glass and red metal?
Waiter: Sure. However, if you choose glass, you are required to pay $10.
Roger: That's nothing. Here's the bill.
Upon getting the chess board and chess pieces, the four created teams. The first game was to feature Roger and Andy against Rafael and Novak. Roger and Andy got the glass chess pieces, while the team of Rafael and Novak chose the red metal.
Glass. Glass for agility, guile, touch, elegance, beauty.
Red Metal. Red metal for power, boldness, forcefulness, frankness.
Team Randy (Roger-Andy) got off to the head start, guiding Team Rovak (Rafael-Novak) into traps and tricks. And when Randy had to play defense, they did it well. But Randy played well offensively, too. When Randy was on the offense, Roger was usually the one moving the chess pieces. For about 15 minutes, Randy dominated Rovak.
But after taking a break to rest the mind, Team Rovak caught up with Team Randy. Randy played well, but Rovak played better. The teams were relaxed, taking as much time as needed. When Rovak was on the defence, they summoned up all their brains to create amazing traps. Rovak played this way for about half an hour.
After a while, all of the players had to go to the restroom, but none wanted to stop play. They agreed on just playing a few minutes before taking yet another halt. These few minutes were very intense. They players made their moves in timely manner, doing so as fast as possible. It was neck and neck, but Randy just edged Rovak in this section. This good play allowed Randy to catch up with Rovak.
The last part of the first game saw Randy demolish Rovak in surprisingly easy fashion. The players played fast, still, and Rovak couldn't keep up mentally, despite the very competitive mind sets of Rafael and Novak.
Result: Randy Wins
Rafael: I think I want to play one more game of chess. How 'bout you?
Roger: Rafa, I totally agree.
So Roger, Rafa, Novak, and Andy played a 2nd, and decidedly last game. This time, there wasn't a team Randy or Rovak, but it was Roger and Rafael against Novak and Andy. Team Rogel against Novy. Rogel selected the glass, while Novy chose the red metal.
Glass. Glass for dominance, experience, confidence, mental toughness.
Red Metal. Red metal for youth, willingness, open-minded, modernity.
Throughout the game, Rogel dominated, but Novy had a good amount of chances. Whenever Novy seemed as if it could sneak in the advantage, Rogel, the more experienced players, turned on the heat. Though a quite close match, Novy barely had any big points played well.
Result: Rogel Wins
Overview - Number of Wins: Roger (2), Rafael (1), Andy (1), Novak (0)
After the conclusion of the 2nd match, Novak finally couldn't take it any more. Novak was a person known for his jokes, giving him the nickname, "the 'Djoker.' "
Novak: I can't believe I couldn't even win won game. Yet I was so close every time.
Roger: It's okay, Novak.
Novak: I mean you and Rafael were to good against Andy and me.
Roger: Well thanks, but your time is not now. Just gain some more experience, and you can win matches like these soon, but it won't be now. Right now, it's all about me and Rafa.
Rafael: Well I think still Novak and Andy played well, no?
Andy: Well, I can play like Roger, but its a shame I can't beat him.
Roger: It's okay Andy, don't cry. It's okay.
Rafael: I think we should go now. Too much chess makes me not focus on my tennis.
Roger: Ahh, I guess its been a night. By Rafa, Novak, and Andy. See you soon at the World Tour Finals at London.
