NFL Scores: 10 Breakout Performances of Week 2
We're halfway through the Week 2 schedule in the NFL and we have already seen some outstanding performances.
Whether it was one player who had a breakout performance, or an entire team dominating an opponent or surprising a favorite, there is already plenty to talk about from today's action.
Here is a list of 10 players or teams that were very impressive in their Week 2 game.
Jay Cutler, Chicago Bears
1 of 10
Early in the Dallas vs. Chicago game, it looked like Jay Cutler was in for a long day.
As the game progressed, Cutler found time to throw, and throw he did.
Cutler went 21 of 29 for 277 yards, 3 touchdowns, and ZERO interceptions.
The Bears have been waiting for the Jay Cutler from Denver to show up, and now with Mike Martz in his corner, that Jay may have arrived.
Jason Snelling, Atlanta Falcons
2 of 10
Michael Turner was expected to have a huge game against the Arizona Cardinals.
When Turner left with a groin injury, Snelling decided it was his turn.
The fourth-year running back from Virginia ripped off 129 yards on 24 carries and 2 touchdowns.
Oh, by the way, he also caught 5 passes for 57 yards and a touchdown.
All this for a grand total of 186 total yards and 3 scores.
Not a bad day for a backup.
Pittsburgh Steelers Defense
3 of 10
With Big Ben out for four games, the Steelers' defense knew it would be on them to keep the team in the playoff hunt until their quarterback returned.
The Steelers became the first team in 12 games to hold star running back Chris Johnson under 100 yards rushing.
They also forced SEVEN turnovers, 3 interceptions and 4 fumble recoveries.
They held the Titans to just 11 points after they scored 38 in Week 1.
The Steelers' offense did not score a touchdown, but it wasn't needed thanks to the defense.
Miami Dolphins
4 of 10
The Miami Dolphins are now 2-0?
After a hard-fought win over the Buffalo Bills, few people expected the Dolphins to beat the Vikings.
But after forcing four turnovers and stuffing the Vikings at the goal line, the Dolphins may be a sleeper to contend for an AFC playoff spot.
Jahvid Best, Detroit Lions
5 of 10
A lot of hype surrounded Jahvid Best coming out of Cal.
He lived up to it today, despite the Lions losing.
Best carried the ball 17 times for 78 yards and two touchdowns.
Best factored in the passing game even more, catching 9 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown.
Best totaled 232 yards and 3 scores against the Eagles in a breakout performance to say the least.
Michael Vick and The Eagles Offense
6 of 10
Well if there wasn't a quarterback controversy in Philadelphia before this game, there is now.
Kevin Kolb struggled in his time against the Packers, and Vick came in and had a great game.
Now in his first start since 2006, Vick leads the offense to 35 points and their first win of the season.
Vick went 21-of-34 for 284 yards and two touchdowns. He connected with 8 different receivers, including touchdowns to Maclin and Jackson.
Add to this LeSean McCoy's 16 carries for 120 yards and 3 touchdowns, and the Eagles offense looked about as good as it can be.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
7 of 10
There must be something in the water down in Florida (and don't say the oil BP spilled).
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers joined the Miami Dolphins at 2-0 with a win over the Carolina Panthers.
Second-year quarterback Josh Freeman completed 12-of-24 passes for 178 yards and two scores, but more importantly managed the game very well, took care of the football, and got a win.
Granted the Bucs' two wins are against Cleveland and Carolina, but they're still wins.
We'll see what the Bucs are made of next week when the Steelers come to town.
Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers
8 of 10
Rodgers was projected to be one of the best fantasy players in 2010.
So far, he's lived up to expectations.
Rodgers torched the Bills for 255 yards on just 19 completions to go with 2 touchdowns.
He also ran the ball 5 times for 20 yards and a score.
Rodgers has his Packers at 2-0 and looks to be in complete control of his offense.
Kansas City Chiefs Defense/Special Teams
9 of 10
Well, their offense didn't score a touchdown, but for the second straight week, the Chiefs' defense and special teams carried them to a win.
Brandon Flowers took a Seneca Wallace pass back 33 yards for Kansas City's only touchdown, and the Chiefs allowed just 14 points.
Combine today with the performance of the d/st against the Chargers, and Kansas City looks like a team that could be tough all season long, especially if the offense picks up the pace.
Chicago Bears
10 of 10
The Chicago Bears won on a technicality in Week 1, so few gave them a chance to win as they went into Dallas to play a fired-up Cowboys team.
But the Bears forced three turnovers while not giving the ball away once.
The defense allowed 410 yards but only gave up one offensive touchdown, and had the Cowboys offense looking out of sync.
The offense started off a bit frazzled but settled down and looks like another piece of Mike Martz's genius.
With the Vikings struggling, the Bears could make a run at the NFC North if they can compete with the Packers
