Cricket: County Championship Division Two Final Round

Worcestershire pipped Glamorgan to claim promotion to Division One of the County Championship with a final day victory against Champions Sussex in a rain-affected final round of matches.

Sussex ended on 235 points, winning eight, drawing five, and losing three after a four-wicket defeat at Worcestershire.

First-class debutant Luke Wells (62) top scored in Sussex's first innings score of 237, as Gareth Andrew took 4-45.

Worcestershire replied with 201-9 declared, Vikram Solanki hitting 52.

Sussex made a game of it by declaring on 264-4 with Luke Wright 94 not out from 56 balls as the home side used 10 bowlers.

Worcestershire reached their target of 301 for the loss of six wickets thanks to James Cameron's 105 and Moeen Ali's 115.

The win means they end on 208 points, winning seven, drawing five, and losing four after the excellent run chase against Sussex.

Glamorgan miss out on promotion in third place on 203 points, winning seven, drawing five, and losing four after they could only draw at home to Derbyshire.

Glamorgan failed to get any batting points as they were dismissed for 166, despite Jim Allenby's 57.

Derbyshire recovered from 142-6 to post 276, while Dean Cosker took 5-93, as Day Two was washed out by rain.

Chasing 160 to win, Derbyshire slumped to 63-5 but held out to make 123-5 before the match was drawn.

Leicestershire finished on 199 points, winning seven, drawing four, and losing five as they won by 10 wickets at Northamptonshire.

Rob Newton hit 102 in his side's total of 250 as Matthew Hoggard took 5-48.

Leicestershire piled on 448-9 declared, thanks to 156 from James Taylor, while Dave Burton took 5-75.

The home side could only manage 198 second time around as Jigar Niak snared 4-58.

Leicestershire hit a boundary off the first ball to get the one run they needed for a crushing victory.

Gloucestershire finish fifth on 172 points, winning six, drawing one, and losing nine after they lost to Surrey by 10 runs.

Surrey made 186 first time around as Kevin Pietersen and Rory Hamilton-Brown hit 40.

Gloucestershire declared on 106-5, Chris Tremlett taking 4-29, as Day Two was lost to rain.

Surrey made 180-3 before they declared as Tom Lancefield made 67 not out.

Chasing 261 for victory, the target looked on at 238-6 before Gloucestershire fell away to 250, 11 runs short of victory despite Chris Dent's 94.

Northamptonshire end on 167 points, winning six, drawing three, and losing seven after defeat to Leicestershire.

Surrey finish on 159 points, winning four, drawing six, and losing six after their tight victory over Gloucestershire.

Middlesex end on 155 points, winning four, drawing five, and losing seven.

Derbyshire finish bottom on 138 points, winning three, drawing six, and losing seven after their draw with Glamorgan.
