Afternoon Notes: TSB Wants Brionte Dunn!

- Big news today in that running back Brionte Dunn finally has received an offer from the Buckeyes. Dunn (6-1/215 pounds) is arguably the best player in 2012 class, and is putting together a great junior season at Glen Oak to prove it. Through three games he has over 800 yards, and has looked unstoppable. It will be interesting to see what happens down the stretch with Dunn's decision making, especially considering the depth at running back for the Buckeyes. With talented guys like Jordan Hall, Jaamal Berry, Carlos Hyde, Roderick Smith and Warren Ball (2012 commit), there are a lot of guys to compete with.

- We are two days away from the Buckeyes taking on Ohio U., and there are a few more interesting developments coming out today. The big story is that Andrew Sweat is likely to miss the game. Of course, Tressel refused to give any details surrounding the injury, so we are in the dark again! We do know that Jonathan Newsome will take his place. I think Newsome is a star in the making, and I can't wait to see him get some reps. Those reps will be limited, though, since Tyler Moeller will be on the field most of the day as the Buckeyes play so much nickel defense.

- No surprise that there is lots of talk about the staff switching up the personnel on the special teams coverage units. It appears the staff is ready to take some drastic steps to clean things up. One of those changes is that a few of the young running backs may find themselves helping out. According to Tressel, Brandon Saine helped out in this department in the past, and they may look to do the same with guys like Boom Herron and Jordan Hall. Luke Fickell had this to say:

"If you tell me I have the chance to take Herron to do something, I'd take him, whether it was tackling, running the ball, catching the ball, whatever it was," Fickell said yesterday. "Same thing with Jordan Hall (who already returns punts and kickoffs) and a lot of other guys. Those are the people we try to get on the field."

This move shows how thin the Buckeyes are at some key positions, namely defensive back. Running backs shouldn't have to be tackling on special teams at Ohio State.

- On a cool note, three former walk-ons earned scholarships this year. Those guys are tight end Ricky Crawford, as well as offensive linemen Chris Malone and Scott Sika. Apparently all the guys were pumped. Tressel  had this to say about Ricky Crawford's reaction to the news:

"Ricky hasn’t stopped smiling,” Tressel said. “I think he slept last night with a smile."

- Finally, Saturday brings three Pac-10 vs. Big Ten battles. They include No. 18 USC at Minnesota, Arizona State at No. 11 Wisconsin, and No. 9 Iowa at No. 24 Arizona. For all of us Pac-10 haters, this will be a showdown for conference superiority. I just wish the Buckeyes could be part of the equation. Anyway, check out Adam Rittenberg take on Ted Miller on the things that surround the showdowns this weekend.
