NFL Week 2: Sit/Start, Sleeper Pick and Game Of The Week Pick

Bob WiltgenSep 16, 2010

We were promised an exciting Week 1, and it was nothing short of spectacular! A few games coming down to the final seconds or final plays-Did Calvin Johnson really score a TD? Is a choke hold a legal way of blocking a defender?

These questions were answered by some very good officiating in the Season openers. I was not aware of the rule change on 'completing the catch process.' We all knew it was a Lions touchdown and possible game winner (unless Jay Cutler and the Bears were going to score in :26 left in the game) when Megatron won the jump ball, came down with 2 feet in bounds and then fell to the ground. But wait! He put the ball on the deck and got up without the ball in hand. Official review. No catch!?!? Yes, shocking.

I don't ever recall any of my football coaches telling me it was okay to wrap your arm around a guys neck while on the offensive line. Period. It's a penalty everytime. Nicely done, you cost your team a win.

Another headline from Week 1: T.O and Ochocinco in the locker room before the half? Not those 2 guys! They teach you that from Day 1! You go into the locker room as a team. Then again, I've heard Batman and Robin are a team.

Week 1 gave us some upsets and definitely made us ask the question to ourselves, "The Chiefs won? Really?"  With the help of last weeks' Sleeper pick Dexter McCluster's 94-yd punt return for a touchdown, yes the Chiefs held on to beat the Chargers 21-14 on a rainy Monday night at Arrowhead. And guess what? They are also in 1st place. Chargers, Broncos and Raiders were on the losing end this past week. But don't get your hopes up too high Kansas City-ites, it's a long season ahead.

In my predictions last week, I went with history and was wrong. The Texans did what I thought they could do when they tore up the Colts D. Next time, I'm going with my gut. It seems as though the balance of power has already began to shift. Again, it's still to early to tell, but I was mighty impressed with the winning teams from the AFC South last week.

For those of you who played Mark Sanchez because he was your best QB choice, I feel for you. However, playing against a stingy Ravens defense especially after all the smack talk the Jets did, doesn't really sit well with you does it? *Insert-I told you so-here*

Sit: Carson Palmer, CIN- For the second week in a row, I am urging you to sit a mediocre QB against a pretty darn good defense. Last week, the Ravens limited Mark Sanchez to 74 passing yards. What do you think they will do against a similar type of QB? One argument is that the Bengals have T.O. and Ochocinco. Well, my question is will they even stay on the field for the whole game?

Sit: All Denver RB's, DEN- Seattle showed the 49ers last week that the road to the division title isn't going to be an easy one. Frank Gore gained 38 yards on 17 carries. Who knew the Seahawks could fly like that and shut down one of the NFL's most prolific running backs? Even with Laurence Maroney heading to the Broncos, they are not in any position to put up big numbers.

Start: Devin Hester, CHI- He was a non-factor last week against the Lions but watch for this speedster to breakout against the Cowboys on their artificial field blowing by the Dallas defenders. He is due for a monster game and I feel this will be the one. He plays well in hot(ter) weather and Dallas will be just what he needs.

Start: Michael Vick, PHI- Kevin Kolb was injured last week and Vick looked like his old self: strong arm, inaccurate as can be yet still has the speed which makes him a dual threat on EVERY play. The Lions will probably stack the line to keep him in the pocket which should make some large openings even Vick can throw into.

Last week I made 2 Sleeper Picks and felt very comfortable with those decisions after their respective games. Javhid Best had 2 scores against the Bears while Dexter McCluster had a 94-yd punt return for a TD and showed us that blazing speed he has been blessed with. This week offers up no easy choice for Sleeper. But if you followed my predictions, you more than likely cashed in with those two players.

Sleeper Pick: John Kuhn, GB- Not a household name but this FB/RB will split carries with Brandon Jackson and when he struggles, Kuhn will get the bulk of the carries. Look for the Pack to give him the ball each time they are near the goal line. This guy will pound it in for 6.

There are plenty of good matchups again this week but I think the one everyone is looking forward to, outside of their favorite team, is the Battle of the Brothers. Peyton vs. Eli. Giants vs. Colts. The future HOF QB usually gets the better of his younger brother and will continue that trend this year as well. The Colts will prevail in this closely fought game between siblings with the elder brother besting his little bro.

In closing this week, I would like to thank you, my readers, for continuing to read my articles and helping me reach over 1,000 reads which earned me a bronze medal last week. I hope you continue reading as I will be sure to continue bringing you the best Fantasy Football advice each and every week.
