The Ending to the Classic Movie Rudy Was All Hollywood

Josh McCainSep 9, 2010

According to some guy named Joe Montana—apparently he played quarterback or something for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (a derogatory term to us Irish Americans, I might add)—the ending to the film Rudy was a bit jazzed up by Hollywood.

This guy, Joe whatever, says there were no chants of Rudy in that final game against Georgia Tech and that Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger being carried off the field was more a goof than the triumph that the movie played it out be.

Who is this guy anyways?  I'm too lazy to look it up. Shoot, I bet he wasn't even on the team.  Probably some disgruntled player that lost a roster spot to Rudy.

Next thing you know they're going to tell us that there was no philosophical janitor that guided Rudy along the way.  Or that Rudy's best friend wouldn't later become Tony Stark's body guard (that's an Iron Man joke for you non-nerds out there.  See, Jon Favreau played his friend and later directed and starred in...oh never mind).

So loyal reader, believe what you want, but let me tell you this: Samwise Gamgee was  a good football player and one hell of an American.

And honestly, has Hollywood ever lied to us about a true story or changed that facts just to make it more compelling?

Oh they have? Well not this time, I'm almost 51 percent sure, I think.
