NFL Cuts: Colt McCoy Still on Cleveland Browns Roster
It's final cutdown day in the NFL, and the Browns already have cut their roster by seven before the deadline.
Colt McCoy still is a Cleveland Brown for all the people who thought he was a "bust" already.
McCoy looked raw, but better, in the game Thursday night. He looked like he was starting to get a little more comfortable with the speed of the game as the night wore on, and began throwing downfield in the second quarter.
Now McCoy should have the rest of the season to work with the rest of the team in practice and take notes on the sidelines.
With McCoy taken care of, here's a look at what the Browns have done so far.
Montario Hardesty Is Finished For 2010
1 of 6
Montario Hardesty is done.
After tearing his left ACL vs. the Bears Thursday night, the guy who already blew out his right knee and suffered a few other knee-related injuries in his time at college got injured again.
This should be filed under "Not surprised."
It's upsetting enough the rookie got injured after looking pretty good in the first quarter, but what's even more upsetting is what the Browns traded away to get him.
The Browns traded away three draft picks to move up a few slots back up into the second round and draft Hardesty.
What's baffling about that is because of his history of knee injuries, Hardesty most likely still would've been there for the taking in the third round.
So now the Browns are out a second-round draft pick, and the three guys they could've gotten with the other picks. That's not smart drafting.
Some guys are injury-prone, that's just the way it is. With Hardesty's history, the process of bringing Hardesty to the Browns was seriously flawed, but it's too late now.
This is not a knock against Hardesty, who looked good and showed promise, but none of that potential means anything if he can't get on the field.
James Davis Is Awesome

With Hardesty's injury, running back James Davis is a lock for the roster. Even without Hardesty's misfortune, Davis played himself onto the team Thursday night.
Davis ran over people, around people, through people, and I even think he dug a hole and went under some defenders on one play.
Davis showed the coaches why he should be on the team, and Browns fans should be in for a treat this year from the second-year running back.
The Joel Reinders Experiment Appears To Be Over
3 of 6
Joel Reinders, the prospect out of Canada the team discovered on YouTube, was cut Friday night.
As of this writing, it is unknown if he'll be signed to the practice squad, but he had a good story, showed some potential, and everyone should hope he becomes a Cinderella story.
If not, that's the way it is in the NFL.
Syndric Steptoe Has Been Cut Again
4 of 6
Everyone should want a guy on their team named Syndric Steptoe. It's one of the greatest names in the history of sport, like "Mookie."
Steptoe has floated at the edge of the Browns roster the last few years, suffering a season-ending injury in training camp last year, but now it appears his time with the team is over.
Raise a glass for Syndric Steptoe, we hardly knew ye.
Coye Francies and Brandon McDonald Will Haunt Our Defense No More
5 of 6
Coye Francies and Brandon McDonald were the kinds of players who were very frustrating to watch because for every great play they made, they blew five other ones.
McDonald's coverage skills were average at best and not getting any better, and Francies just never seemed to be able to bring a complete game to the field.
They're both gone now, and it's hard to be upset about either cut.
Who's Next?
6 of 6
The final 14 players to be cut haven't been announced as of this writing, but it's a good bet Brett Ratliff will be looking for work.
There will be some hard decisions made this afternoon, and even then the roster-shaping isn't finished as the practice squad will be formed, the waiver wire will be scoured, and unforeseen circumstances may bring a cut player right back onto the squad.
Stay tuned, it's going to be a crazy afternoon!
