College Football Office Pool Idea – Conference Special

Dean WileyAug 20, 2010

With the College football season is just around the corner it is time to discuss how to put together a College football office pool. The one main difference in a College pool and a NFL pool is the number of games that are played in a given week. In the NFL you will get between 12 and 16 games a week, while in college you could have 50 games in week. So that is why I try to limit the selections opportunities to just one conference.

Here is how I would put together a College Football Confidence Pool:

Objective: To pick the winners of College football games and earn the most points by your rankings of each game.

Group Size: Any

1) Pick a conference that you are familiar with or that you enjoy watching. (I choose the Pac-10 because it close to where I live)

2) Go to ESPN College Football Schedule and on the right side you will see a drop down menu that says "Conference Schedules". Click the one that applies to the conference you want to use.

3) Copy the conference schedule you want and email or hand it out to your participants.

4) Each participant will pick the winner of each of the games and then rank them from 1-10 (the number of games that week) in how confident they are in their pick. confidence (10 being very confident and 1 not confident).

5) Participants must email you their picks before the first game on the conference schedule.

Scoring:

  • Participants get points for each correct game
  • Points are determined by the participant's ranking of those games they got correct.
  • For example...if a participant has New England to win with a 10 confidence ranking they would get 10 points, if they miss the game they get zero points. (this assumes that their are only 10 games)
  • Add up all the points that the participant gets from his/her correct games.
  • In a week with 16 games  there will be 100 maximum points

Optional: Add in the spread so that each participant must pick the winner against the spread. This makes it much more difficult.

Optional: You can also throw out each teams non-conference games if you wish and only use conference match-ups.

6) Participant who scores the most points at the end of the season will be declared the winner.

7) Use the payout calculator to figure out how much each place gets.
