NFL 2010 Fantasy Preview: RB
Featured on MIASPORTSGUY.COM
Running back has become the most difficult position to project in all of fantasy football, with the shift towards the back-by-committee approach by most NFL teams.
After the first tier there is a major drop off. It’s critical to have a strategy going into the draft when it comes to the position.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
If you can’t a top tier back in round one, instead grab a star quarterback or receiver. There are a bunch of backs who will get quality time this year that can be had beyond the early rounds. Over forty players figure to get solid playing time at the position in 2010.
Risers
Shonn Greene, Jets
The Jets are going to base their offense around the rushing attack. With Thomas Jones gone, Greene will have every opportunity to become the featured back, even with Tomlinson in the mix. His 5.0 yards per carry as a rookie bodes well for the former Iowa Hawkeye.
Ben Tate, Texans
The rookie out of Auburn has an impressive array of skills. He is a complete back who should thrive from day one in a potentially dominant Texans offense.
Lesean McCoy, Eagles
McCoy replaces Westbrook as the featured back and will not disappoint. He is going to kill it next year and is my most confident sleeper.
Fallers
Steven Jackson, Rams
Any running back playing with a rookie quarterback is going to have a tough time finding space to run.
Clinton Portis, Redskins
It’s no longer Clinton’s backfield in Washington with Larry Johnson and Willie Parker in town.
Rankings
Tier 1
No. 1. Chris Johnson, TEN: The most explosive player in fantasy football.
No. 2. Adrian Peterson, MIN: Regardless of whether Favre comes back, Peterson is going to continue to produce
No. 3. Ray Rice, BAL: Should come close to the 2,000 yards from scrimmage he produced last year.
No. 4. Maurice Jones-Drew, JAC: He is the Jaguars offense. Could be the best in the business if he had more around him.
Tier 2
No. 5. Michael Turner, ATL: Played in only 11 games last year. Dominated when he did play.
No. 6. Frank Gore, SF: Frank the Tank will be the focal point of the offense once again.
No. 7. Shonn Greene, NYJ: Greene is ready to become one of the NFL’s top backs running behind a superior line.
Tier 3
No. 8. Rashard Mendenhall, PIT: The Steelers offense will revolve heavily around the running game with Ben out for at least four games. Rashard will produce monster numbers while he’s out.
No. 9. Lesean McCoy, PHI: Meet Bryan Westbrook 2.0. He has Westbrook’s speed and cutting ability
No. 10. DeAngelo Williams, CAR: The Panthers should run the hell out of the ball once again with inexperienced QB.
No. 11. Steven Jackson, STL: Jackson might drop off this year with a rookie QB leading the way.

No. 14. Ryan Mathews, SD: The rook will have every opportunity to help carry the Chargers offense.
Tier 4
No. 15. Pierre Thomas, NO: The top back on the league’s best offense.
No. 16. Joseph Addai, IND: As steady as they come. You know what you’re getting with Joe.
No. 17. Knowshon Moreno, DEN: Big risk considering the lack of weapons around him.
No. 18. Jonathan Stewart, CAR: Will likely be the top No. 2 back in football.
No. 19. Beanie Wells, ARI: Much of his success will depend on Leinhart’s ability to keep defenses honest.
No. 20. Jamaal Charles, KC: Charles will share time with Thomas Jones, limiting his potential to have another huge year.
No. 21. Ronnie Brown, MIA: Will he stay healthy enough to be a factor?
No. 22. Felix Jones, DAL: Excellent back on a team with three of them.
No. 23. Brandon Jacobs, NYG: Always an injury risk with his punishing style.
No. 24. Marion Barber, DAL: See above.
