England v Hungary Preview

11th August, 2010, Wembley

International Friendly, 8PM

England

England play their first international fixture since being knocked out of the 2010 World Cup in the Round of 16, when they line up for Wednesday night's England vs Hungary clash at Wembley Arena.

Fabio Capello and the England side will want to put the disappointing World Cup run behind them, and turn their attention towards the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers, which begins in three weeks time. A comfortable victory in this fixture will undoubtedly assist to erase the memory of the 4-1 defeat suffered at the hands of Germany only in mid-June.

With Capello saying sorry over the weekend, the England Boss has rustled things up with his announcement of the squad to face Hungary.

Only 10 of the 23 man World Cup team remain chosen for Wednesday night's fixture.

Fabio Capello has called up the likes of Theo Walcott, Kieran Gibbs, Bobby Zamora, Carlton Cole

The team announcement, however, has not been without its problems, with Paul Robinson and Wes Brown both announcing their retirement from international football after being called up to play in the England vs Hungary tie.

The new-look squad will have been chosen to bring in some fresh blood ahead of the all-important Euro 2012 qualifiers.

Hungary failed to qualify for South Africa, with the side finishing 4th in a group consisting of Sweden, Portugal, and Denmark amongst others.

New Manager Sandor Egervari replaced Erwin Koeman not long ago, and the side will be hopeful of putting in a positive campaign to make it to Euro 2012, sharing qualifying Group E with the the likes of Holland, Sweden and Finland.

Zoltan Gera has been recalled to the national side for this England vs Hungary meeting after previously retiring from international duty after he was dropped by the former manager for turning up late to a team meeting.

Match Prediction

The last meeting between the two sides took place back in 2006 at Old Trafford, with England winning 3-1, with Steven Gerrard, John Terry and Peter Crouch all providing goals.

Prior to this, the last England v Hungary match to take place at Wembley was in 1996 with England winning 3-0.

In all likelihood, Fabio Capello's side should post an easy win at home.

By the time the final whistle blows, though, just how confident England currently are could be on show for all to see.
