Manny Pacquiao: Power Ranking His Next Possible Fights
In a perfect world, we would all be setting our DVR to record a memorable fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. But alas, what we have is only our hopes.
Not content to sit and wait for "Money" Mayweather, Pacquiao is set to fight Antonio Margarito on November 13th. But what about after that? If talks between the two sides again stall, I have to watch someone get demolished by Pacman.
10: Joshua Clottey
1 of 10This is a fight that would be great for Clottey and horrible for Pacquiao. In their first fight, Clottey laid down and refused to fight. Jabs were few and far between and Pacman dominated the fight. Clottey would love one last great payday. He should have thought about that when he rolled over in their last fight.
Nine: Alfredo "Perro" Angulo
2 of 10A junior middleweight, Angulo would have to come down to box Pacquiao. It could be interesting. Angulo has the power to hurt Manny, but speed would be an issue.
Eight: Timothy Bradley Jr.
3 of 10
He is a current WBO light welterweight champion with a name on the rise. Bradley has not only challenged Manny Pacquiao to fight openly, but I believe he is a fighter that deserves a big pay day. More than likely though, there would be a fight against Amir Khan next.
Seven: Andre Berto
4 of 10He will most likely fight Miguel Cotto next, but a fight with Pacquiao will come shortly thereafter. He was close to fighting Sugar Shane and would love a chance to put his name on the bill with Manny.
Six: Miguel Cotto
5 of 10Cotto has to be nipping at the bit for this one. Cotto came out in round one of their November 2009 fight looking like a bigger fighter. What was more surprising is that he looked capable against Manny. Then the cream rose to the top. For the most part it was all Pacman from there. He picked Cotto apart with speed. I am sure Miguel Cotto would want another shot.
Five: Amir Khan
6 of 10Flashy, dynamic, and quick are all ways to describe Amir Khan. He completely destroyed former titlist Paulie Malignaggi. He will most likely face Juan Manuel Marquez next. If we are never to see a Mayweather/Pacquiao match, this might be the closest thing.
Four: Antonio Margarito
7 of 10So this is Manny Pacquiao’s actual next fight, scheduled for November 13. It was scheduled when Floyd Mayweather’s camp neglected to meet a deadline imposed by Pacquiao.
This is kind of like waking up on Christmas hoping for that new toy and getting nothing but socks.
Three: Juan Manuel Marquez
8 of 10This would be a great fight; the third in an exciting trilogy. Both fights went 12 rounds. While Marquez is five years Pacquiao’s senior, he is one of the more skilled boxers to ever put on gloves.
Two: "Sugar" Shane Mosley
9 of 10Why not? Mosley looked great for a couple rounds against Mayweather. It would be the only litmus test we have in this regard. If Mosley handles Mora in his next fight and there are again no talks between Manny’s and Floyd’s camp, this will be next on the agenda.
One: Floyd Mayweather Jr.
10 of 10This is the hope and dream of any fan of pugilism. They are mirror images of each other. Both are in their prime and you can just envision rematch after rematch.
Floyd is the only person that is as quick and powerful as Manny Pacquiao. Despite all his eccentricities out of the ring, Mayweather is a master of the art of boxing. He wore down “Sugar” Shane in the only way a master can.
Fingers crossed.
