Arsenal, Manchester U and Liverpool: Who Should They Target?

Gabe ZaldivarAug 3, 2010

With only a couple of weeks left before the start of the Premiership season, the top teams are clamoring to improve themselves.  Manchester United may be favoring youth a bit too much for the upcoming season and may have to find an elder star to bring it all together.   Arsenal could be on the verge of losing their best and brightest to Barcelona.  Liverpool's Torres may need some help if he is to bounce back from his World Cup debacle.

Making a move is crucial for these three teams to compete with other top light team Chelsea.  Here is what they should do.

Manchester United

Manchester United were not quite the same once Christiano Ronaldo left for Real Madrid.  They miss having a player that draws attention from the powerful foot of Wayne Rooney.

What was once a powerful one-two option upfront, has turned into the Manchester midfield too often looking for Rooney alone.  And no one wants to look at Rooney for too long.

Well, rumors are now swirling the Mesut Ozil is fond of United.  It should take about two seconds for Sir Alex Ferguson to be enamored with Ozil.  He would open the back line of any English team and create chances for Rooney.  Imagine Ryan Giggs' pin point passes finding Ozil on the run.  Yeah, I know nauseating.

Arsenal F.C.

The Gunners have not won the Premierships since the 2003-2004.  Further than that, mention of them in the same vein as Chelsea and Manchester United have been too few for their supporters.

What should be even more troubling is news that Cesc Fabregas is utterly distraught between his allegiance to Arsenal and his wishes to play for Barcelona.  I know.  Let us all shed a collective tear for Cesc.  Well first thing first then.  You lock in Fabregas.  If you were to lose him, you not only lose your captain but a play-maker that is among the best in the world.  Also I am tired of Real Madrid and Barcelona taking anything they want.

But they will take him anyway I am sure.  So, the latest is that Arsene Wenger has targeted Mikel Arteta to replace Fabregas if he should leave.  It would be a smart move.  Not only does he have the style but his set pieces are ridiculous.  Have a look at the video naysayers.

Liverpool F.C.

Fernando Torres recently pledged his allegiance to Anfield.  I wonder if this has anything to do with teams staying clear of the recently healed striker.  Spain won the World Cup despite his efforts.  it remains to be seen how quickly he can regain his form.  Until then, Liverpool will need help.

Ashley Young is a fantastic winger near the top of his form.  The fact that Aston Villa's chances of selling him is somewhere between nil and none should not dissuade The Reds from trying.  His quickness on the ball would help Torres in the same way Ozil would free up Rooney.

A player of Ashley Young's pedigree would bring Liverpool back to the top three in the Premiership.
