Why The BCS Is Good For College Football
Everyone loves a movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the whole show. So why doesn't everyone love the BCS? That's pretty much what it is.
While it has been controversial in picking the best two teams in the country to play in the National Championship, the one thing you cannot deny is the emphasis it has on the regular season.
Compared to college basketball, where 68 teams now get a chance to play for a national championship, football teams are fighting for those top two spots through the whole season.
With basketball, the North Carolina and Duke rivalry is great, but one loss for either team doesn't matter. Except for last season, it's obvious that both of those teams will be in the tournament no matter what, so it really doesn't have the importance that the Florida versus Florida State rivalry could have or game like Oklahoma and Texas.
In college football, one loss can ruin your season. Last year, Tim Tebow's Florida team lost once, in the SEC Championship Game to Alabama, so they played Cincinnati in the Sugar Bowl while Alabama played in the BCS National Championship.
For me, I love watching college football every Saturday, knowing that one football team's dream could end from Week One to the last week of the season.
So say what you want about Non-BCS Conference teams not getting a chance, but college football has the BCS to thank for providing an exceptional regular season.
Perhaps the best in sports.
