Latest In String Of Lawsuits Against Floyd Mayweather, Jr Bared
Undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. is reportedly being sued by his landlord for not paying rent on the commercial space his promotions company occupied.
The latest in the string of court cases against Mayweather Jr. came after a lawsuit was filed against his uncle and trainer Roger Mayweather.
In the latest lawsuit, MayweatherJr reportedly failed to pay $62,000 in rent for commercial space that houses his promotion company, his landlord claims in Clark County Court.
TDF Investments says Mayweather signed a lease in July 2008 for Mayweather Promotions at nearly $10,800 per month for three years.
But TDF says Mayweather owes for unpaid rent, and the landlord had Mayweather evicted in July of this year.
In September 2009, Mayweather Jr. was sued allegedly for not paying legal services. That same month, he was accused of failing to make monthly payments of $9,000 on a 2007 Mercedes Maybach 57S.
On top of the string of lawsuits against the controversial boxer, the IRS has laid some claims to his properties for non-payment of proper taxes to the government.
The IRS has so far placed two liens on Mayweather Jr’s properties in 2004 and 2008 for unpaid taxes. In 2004, a tax lien worth $3.1 million was placed on a property belonging to Mayweather Jr.
In 2008, the IRS slapped another lien, this time for $6.1 million on another Mayweather Jr. property.
The second lien forced Mayweather Jr. out of retirement. He was about to face dire consequences of his tax problems when he fought Juan Manuel Marquez and from his earnings, paid off the 2008 lien.
Floyd Mayweather, Jr, who is listed in Forbes as the world's richest boxer in its 2010 list of richest sportsmen, is currently facing a defamation lawsuit in the state of California for accusing Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao of taking steroids or performance enhancing drugs without presenting documented evidence.
Negotiations for the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight ended last July 16 after the American boxer failed to sign the contract to fight Manny Pacquiao which was scheduled for November this year.
