The Tiger Woods Lovefest Is Getting On My Nerves
The British Open was the last straw.
Before I could tolerate the media and television coverage associated with Tiger, but last week's Open Championship was a new level of insanity.
Never has so much attention been drawn about a change in club selection. For those of you who don't know, for last week's tournament, Tiger switched from the trusty Scotty Cameron that he's had since 2000 to the new Nike Method putter.
The media took this story and ran with it. It was unbearable, everywhere I turned people were talking about this putter switch. It wasn't a big deal. Phil has done crazy things in majors with changing clubs. Phil once went with two drivers, and once went with no drivers. These wild decisions did not garner near the media attention that a silly putter change did.
What reaaly got on my nerves was when I was watching the First Round and the showed Tiger's pre shot routine, his shot, and him watching his playing partner hit. Really? I think that's a little too much.
If Tiger had won this British Open by eight rather than Oothuizen, would we be speaking of this Open differently? Yes. Yes we would. It would be as great as his win in 2000 and 2005. When Tiger won in 2000 at St. Andrews he didn't put his ball into one pot bunker over the four days, Oosthuizen hit one.
I think Louis deserves more credit than either one of Tiger's Open wins at St. Andrews. Take into consideration the fact that he had only made one cut previously in a major. He comes out of nowhere to win the Open by seven shots. He dealt with that pressure like he been there many times before, when in reality, he was a rookie.
Yes I get that Tiger is the "World Number 1", ( I put that into quotations because the world rankings considers a two year window, Tiger Woods is not the best golfer in the world right now.) but I would just like the media to appreciate that their are many great players on tour and they deserve some attention too.
