Bob Sanders Finished? Report Says Colts Star Will Never Play Again

Daniel WolfJul 19, 2010

Indianapolis Colts safety Bob Sanders has been an impact playmaker in the defensive secondary, but only when he has actually been able to get onto the football field and play some ball.

An injury-riddled career has prevented Sanders from ever playing a full 16-game NFL schedule since he was drafted in the second round of the 2004 NFL Draft.

According to a report from NFL.com's Mike Lombardi, there is a chance that Sanders may never see the playing field again due to his 2009 injury where he ruptured his bicep tendon, which has now caused issues with both his bicep and shoulder.

Sanders has told the media that he feels great and is ready to go into training camp and play in 2010, but Lombardi says his rehab has been going at a snail's pace.

Lombardi also reported that Sanders "reduced his contract," though Lombardi did not give any details regarding this, either, so this is one for the rumor mill until it is proven to be true.

What is very interesting in this report by Lombardi is that this is just one small sentence at the very end of his entire post.

This alone should lead anyone to believe that all of this is false and there is no truth to any of it.

The former NFL Defensive Player of the Year and two-time Pro Bowler would be getting much more press than getting buried at the very bottom of an article—so until the Colts release a statement or Sanders' representation makes a statement, this should be chalked up as gibberish and nonsense.

Sanders has only played in eight games the past two season since being named the 2007 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

UPDATE: 7/19/10 5:18 P.M. EST: "Nothing has changed since June," a Colts spokesman told the Indianapolis Star.

Also, Sanders agent, Tom Condon, said that all reports of a different contract are false.

If Lombardi had a source for his information in his article, then he needs to reconsider listening to him or her ever again, especially after this debacle.
