Manny Pacquiao Failed To Please Boxing Fans with Floyd Mayweather's Inaction

Leo ReyesJul 19, 2010

Boxing fans from around the world have done wonders for Filipino boxer Many Pacquiao, who is now on his first term as congressman representing his congressional district of Sarangani in southern Philippines.

The outpouring of support for the world's most popular boxer, especially from his native Philippines, has motivated Pacquiao to bring out the best in him in every fight.

“I have always wanted to please the (boxing) fans. That’s why I badly wanted to fight Mayweather. This is what the whole world wants to see,” said Pacquiao , who has to settle for a fight either with Mexican Antonio Margarito or Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto.

The real compelling reason why Pacquiao wanted to fight Mayweather is his desire to please his boxing fans. Of course, the prize that the fight offers is a prime consideration but the Filipino boxer has always thought of pleasing his fans by giving out his best up in the ring.

Pacquiao said he is very disappointed with Myaweather's inaction on his fight offer.

This is the fight the whole world wants to see, Pacquiao said. And by failing to fight Mayweather, the pound-for-pound king said he felt sad by not being able to give his fans what they deserve.

Boxing fans have waited for over a year for the highly promoted fight to happen. Quite irritating is the fact that Mayweather never bothered to reach out to millions of boxing fans around the world to explain his side of the issue.

Even his most loyal boxing fans are now put in a bad light for claiming that the fight will definitely happen because Mayweather wants to show the world he is the greatest by beating Pacquiao, who has taken over his post as the Ring's pound-for-pound king.

If Pacquiao has shown his displeasure and disappointments over the outcome of the long-awaited fight, the least Mayweather could have done was to tell the whole boxing community about his own side of the story.

Boxing fans will probably understand why Mayweather opted to keep silent if he issued a short statement about his inaction. Even a one-liner in his own website could probably cool down the already bursting tempers of boxing fans.

But as I was reviewing my draft, I got a news alert about a fresh statement from Mayweather who was in Miami, Florida with basketball superstars Alonzo Mourning and Dwayne Wade.

The statement says:

“I'm not really thinking about boxing right now,” Mayweather told Tim Reynolds of The Associated Press during a charity basketball game in Miami, Florida hosted by NBA superstars Alonzo Mourning and Dwyane Wade.

“I'm just relaxing. I fought about 60 days ago, so I'm just enjoying myself, enjoying life, enjoying my family and enjoying my vacation,” he added.

“I'm not interested in rushing to do anything,” the undefeated fighter with 41 wins (25 knockouts) said.

In the meantime, Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum is reportedly working on the possible Pacquiao-Margarito fight or a rematch with Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto on November 13.

Possible locations are Las Vegas, Nevada, Arlington, Texas, and UAE in the Middle East.
