Is WWE Trying to Repeat the Success of the Nexus with Season Two Rookies?

John BetschelJul 15, 2010

At the beginning of the first season of NXT, fans were wondering which rookies would make it to the main roster, and which would not.

Little did we know what the WWE creative team had brewing.

Once NXT season one was finished, the winner, Wade Barrett, made an appearance on RAW, along with the rest of the rookies, and attacked John Cena, as well as the announcers, timekeepers, and everyone else in sight. Thus came the birth of The Nexus.

Since then, they have been attacking anyone who gets in their way, and it has been a hit with fans, with increased ratings when they showed up on NXT this past Tuesday.

So, with the recent success of The Nexus, the WWE creative team figures they can do the same thing twice.

During NXT this past week, "Showtime" Percy Watson had his own talk show after winning the "talk the talk" challenge the week before.

With MVP as his first guest, things seemed to be going smoothly. Percy thanked MVP for being his mentor and for helping him out and giving him all the great advice. Then, he went on to say that MVP has always told him to "seize the opportunity and grab the moment."

From then on, things took a turn for the worse, with all the rookies coming from the back to gang up on and attack MVP. Then the rest of the pros come down to the ring (excluding LayCool, who were conspicuous by their absence), and it looked like we are going to have an all out brawl between the pros and the rookies.

Matt Striker then came out from the back and suggested having an over the top battle royal, to which Wade Barrett interrupted by claiming The Nexus would also take part, with him standing tall as the winner at the end.

At the end, Nexus was declared the winner of the battle royal, which was confusing because it was announced as every man for himself, not a team battle royal.

What I'm getting at is it seems the WWE finds something good and just runs with it; the season one rookies united and are going against the pros, so lets have season two's rookies unite and battle the pros as well.

So, what will be in store for the rookies next week? Will they be in Nexus mode, so to speak? Or will the WWE creative team take them in a different direction? Guess we'll just have to tune in next Tuesday in order to find out.

Also, on a side note, Wade Barrett keeps saying that their actions are all part of a bigger picture—any ideas what that might be?
