TNA Victory Road Recap: Jay Lethal, Kurt Angle, and More
Last weekend's TNA Victory Road pay-per-view was an exciting one.
Viewers of the event got to see title changes, action packed matches, and more.
Before Victory Road, pro wrestling analysts wrote about how this may be worthy to watch, and at the end of the night, it wasn't disappointing.
I will be rating "Good" or "Bad" decisions on the booking of the matches.
Ultimate X Belt: Doug Williams Retains His Title by Defeating Brian Kendrick: Good
Having Williams retain his X Division title is the right choice, as I feel Kendrick is not ready to overtake the division. Kendrick is talented, and down the line, I think he should get another shot at the championship.
Brother Ray Defeats Jesse Neal and Brother Devon: Bad
I would have liked to see Jesse Neal win this match. Adding Devon in the match further hyped up the feud within Team 3D.
Knockouts Title: Angelina Love Becomes New Champion: Good
Angelina winning the title was a good decision. With reports stating Tara is the mystery woman that appeared during the match, her return could be a huge boost for the division. Love and Tara would make a good feud to watch.
Aj Styles and Kazarian Beat Samoa Joe and Rob Terry: Good
Having AJ Styles and Kazarian work as a unit was a good showing for Ric Flair's recreation of the Four Horsemen. "Fortune" is about to begin its storyline in TNA, and having Styles and Kazarian not only work together but win is a positive for the group. Good booking.
Hernandez Defeats Matt Morgan in a Steel Cage Match: Good
I personally didn't follow this match along too much. The feud didn't bring attention to me. But anyways, Hernandez winning was a good choice. He is just returning to TNA and he is getting a push by defeating Morgan.
Jay Lethal Beats Ric Flair: Good
To be honest with everyone, this match was well put. Ric Flair, for his age, did everything he has done throughout his career and performed well. The crowd sung back and forth on this one, rooting for both almost equally. Lethal is getting the hugest push of his career, and having him work with Flair has helped gained him notice.
Motor City Machine Guns Are the New Tag Team Champions: Good
Motor City winning the tournament for the belts was an excellent booking decision. They are a popular group, alongside with Beer Money, and deserved their day. From what I've read, the match was awesome.
Kurt Angle defeats The Pope: Good
Kurt Angle, sometime before the year end or into early 2011, will get a title shot (my opinion). I think having him go through the Contenders list was a good choice.
Rob Van Dam Remains World Heavyweight Champion by Defeating Abyss, Mr. Anderson, and Jeff Hardy in a Four-Way Match: Good
RVD title run is still going, and the belt should remain on him. Good choice. Look forward to seeing the champion contain his title run.
My Take: Overall, Good
This PPV was worth buying. Over the course of the last few weeks, TNA has put on solid Impact! shows and PPV matches.
After seeing last week's very good rating (check on my "TNA Ratings: Is The Rise Here?" due out Wednesday, July 14th) and solid production going on, there is definitely awareness being raised.
