The Samba Star: Is There Still a Place for Denilson in the Arsenal Side?

Callum D'SouzaJul 9, 2010

As the World Cup draws to a close with only a mere two matches to go, one of which the world will await anxiously, the focus will soon turn to the commencement of the European domestic season.

Many eyes will be cast towards the World's best footballing league, which is the English Premier League. What is set to be another, glorious, thrilling season, will have a host of memorable moments.

Arsenal will be striving to dramatically improve their current form in the Premier League and abroad. The Gunners have not secured a single amount of silverware since 2005 and now the North London men are hungrier than ever to rewrite history.

Manager Arsene Wenger is currently implementing serious changes into his youthful roster. Having already signed Lorient defender Laurent Koscielny and Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh to bolster his depth, the Frenchman is set to add a new keeper, much to fans delight, as well as a midfielder.

Wenger is eyeing the likes of Felipe Melo, Joe Cole, and Mesut Ozil to add to his already talented midfield. It is more than likely at least one, and even possibly two, of the latter will join the Emirates before the Summer Transfer Window ends. This the case, what does the mean for the current Arsenal midfielders?

Reports would suggest that Cesc Fabregas will not be leaving Arsenal for boyhood club Barcelona. This will come as a welcome relief to not only the Arsenal community but the Premier League community too.

Furthermore Arsenal have no glaring injuries to Abou Diaby, Samir Nasri, Alexandre Song, and Denilson which ensures that they should have a fully fit central midfield group come August.

So with potentially two midfielders arriving what will occur in the Arsenal midfield?

It is likely Arsene Wenger will continue to behold the 4-3-3 formation with three central midfielders all deploying around each other with one taking on the sole defensive duties and the other two conducting the attack.

After a terrific 2009/2010, Alexandre Song is set to once again keep the defensive role, and captain and maestro Cesc Fabregas will undoubtedly patrol the right side leaving Abou Diaby or Samir Nasri with the left.

With another midfielder coming into the equation it leaves Samba Star Denilson in a tough position. The Brazilian had a fairly dismal 09/10 with injury and form hampering his development and ensuring fans lost their confidence in his ability.

However Denilson now boasts a load of experience and is capable of stepping up and reigniting his 2008/2009 form. But is there still a place in the Arsenal side for him?

With Aaron Ramsey hopefully returning by January 2011 and promising youngsters Jack Wilshere, Henri Lansbury, and Craig Eastmond all developing strongly, added in with the fact that Arsenal have a congested central midfield, Denilson potentially could struggle for a place.
