Roy Hodgson Reveals Liverpool FC Transfer Policy: " Experience a Must "
Finally the rumours are back again. Liverpool was possibly spared of some of its share of rumours because of the absence of a manager.
However, now with Roy Hodgson at the helm, the share of rumours are back and in a flurry. The main point that still surrounds Hodgson's idea about the transfer market is his transfer policy.
As documented in some of the leading reports today, Ashley Young and Lille's star Gervinho have attracted the attention of the newly appointed Liverpool boss. Both these players are undoubtedly extremely talented in their own right, and the Ivory coast star in particular has just come back after a stupendous season at his present club.

Ashley Young, on the other hand, has had a mixed season at Villa park; however, he did play a critical part in Aston villa's critical victory last season at Anfield.
Both the players could cost a total sum of around 20m GBP at least, with Liverpool valuing Gervinho at 8m GBP and would be happy if they could bag Young for the remaining sum. With Liverpool's latest policy of attracting the best English talent around a swap-plus-cash deal also should not be ruled out.
However, some comments that Hodgson has recently made makes one ponder whether the foresaid deals are really on the cards.
It was reported that after visiting Melwood, the ex-Fulham boss is supposed to have said that the current Liverpool team is still a little short of experience.
With financial restraints a certainty at the club, Hodgson clearly knows what lies ahead of him and one would believe that he already has started chalking plans about resurrecting the club.
His latest comment re- enforces the earlier rumours that Hodgson was reportedly keen on signing veterans like Gilberto Silva and Danny Murphy from Panathanaikos and Fulham, respectively.
Although vastly experienced, Hodgson has rarely exhibited he has what it takes to be successful in the transfer market and his records at the then-successful clubs of Inter Milan and Blackburn Rovers really don't help.
It is one thing to buy one or two cheaply available players and make the best out of them at average clubs, but buying veterans for a club like Liverpool is certainly another story.
It is a strong rumour that the Anfield outfit will at least lose Mascherano among the core players of the team this summer, and both Silva and Murphy may be considered as substitutes.
But is it possible for a player to be really talented and ousted by premier clubs like Silva, or would it be a good thing for Murphy to join the Anfield outfit again, knowing he could be given a supporting role, when he is easily one of the fan favorites at Fulham?
With Hodgson's latest emphasis on experience, it could mean that a few aged and cheaply available stars make their way to the Merseyside outfit. However, whether such a bizarre policy would at all be successful remains to be seen.
Whatever it may be, Hodgson has clearly given an indication that he still wants to play a safer game and would prefer gambling with cheaply available stars rather than try to pull off some piece of managerial brilliance by buying equally cheap younger players who could etch him a name in history.
At these distressful times for the Reds, many people would buy Hodgson's tactics. But if it is really pursued, such moves could easily backfire in more ways than one and make the fight for the top-four finish a lot more difficult.
As a Reds fan, I would hope for all the right moves. Though til the World Cup ends and the transfer market really takes the centre stage, all we can do is wait and watch.
