Chavez Sr. Have One Thing in Common with His Son

A young Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. saw his mother ironing and washing other people's clothes and promised her that he would give her a house and he would never touch anyone’s clothes again. 115 fights after Julio Sr. made true to his promise and became one of Mexico’s greatest boxer of all time winning 6 championships in three different divisions and having the longest undefeated streak in boxing for 13 years with an 89-0-1 record before losing to Frankie Randall. But Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. doesn’t have the same drive or the same motivation like his father. He has some difficult moments after his parents’ divorce before he decided to follow his Dad’s footsteps to become a boxer. His career was carefully built with unknown and unworthy fighters. Have you heard about Guadalupe Arce, Arturo Ocampo or how about Sheldon Mosley? Nope? Me either. Those fighters have more losses than wins and I don’t know why they were allowed to fight if you have 0-13-0, 1-4-0 and 1-6-0 record respectively it’s like they are accustomed in losing and are mere sparring partners to boost anyone’s fighting record.

Junior had a 41-0 record but it wasn’t how people want him to be. Senior fought the best in his division and still came out undefeated for 13 years that’s why when junior fought the rugged Matt Vanda he almost lost his precious undefeated record in a 10 round battle.

Last Saturday Junior fought his toughest fight of all against the talented and resilient John Duddy. Duddy fought Chavez down to the end and fought in bunches but it was not enough to outpoint Chavez Jr.’s jabs and body shots. The complete transformation from the Vanda fight was Freddie Roach’s game plan. A diamond in the rough and Roach has the perfect tool to smoothen and bring out Chavez’s true potential to make it to where he is heading… his first ever championship belt.
Winning against Duddy was everything to Junior it was his introduction to true championship boxing. No more patsies, no more sparring fights, this is the real deal and after Duddy there would be a lot more difficult fights coming up like Felix Sturm, Sergio Martinez, Paul Williams and a possible matchup with junior middleweight WBA champion Miguel Cotto.

Cesar Chavez Jr. would never be like his father, not even close and frankly saying there would be no other Chavez Sr. not in this lifetime…
This is Jr.’s time to shine; this is the time he makes his own name and starts his own path. He can never be like his father but he can be that someone that steps out of his shadow and start making his own legacy. Seeing how your mother iron and wash clothes has no comparison on seeing both your parents getting divorce but they share the same pain just as winning 89-0 is far different in 41-0 but they share the same ring, the same passion and the same name. There won’t be any Chavez Sr. just as there won’t be any Chavez Jr. we make our own paths and own goals…

As Chavez Jr. waived to the crowd after a unanimous decision win against John Duddy the crowd applauded him. People love him like the way they love his father… thus in that instance Father and son have one thing in common they share the same admiration.
