JohnnyNFLJun 18, 2010

The RBs and WRs for My Fantasy Football Top Picks for Today

I know it borders on insane, but I’m giving you an early Fantasy Football cheatsheet. No one normally has any kind of fantasy football cheatsheet available in May, but the draft is over and I know some of you fantasy football fanatics have got the itch.

So, although it’s not much of a list, it’s a start. Here my Top 10 Fantasy Football Players for 2010 May cheatsheet.  Just a little taste for you. Maybe if you convince me,  I’ll put together my Top 10 for each position soon. You know this list may change a lot over the next few months, so keep that in mind, but just for fun here we go:

My Early Fantasy Football Cheatsheet For 2010

1.    RB Chris Johnson /Titans- I wouldn’t expect a repeat performance of last year, but right now you’d still have to rank him number one. Johnson is a threat both on the ground and through the air and has the ability to bring it to the house every time he touches the ball. The departure of Lendale White to the Seahawks means Johnson will be seeing lots of action, and he should put up some big numbers again in 2010. The big question right now is who is going to replace Kevin Mawae at center, as this could affect his numbers.

2.    WR Andre Johnson/Texans- With the way fantasy football has changed, having Andre Johnson on your squad could be as good as having just about any RB. QB Matt Schaub is now one of the top QB’s in the league, and even though the running game may be a little better with the addition of rookie RB Ben Tate, the offensive line is still much better at pass blocking than run blocking, giving Schaub and Johnson the opportunity to hook up often.

3.    RB Maurice Jones-Drew/Jaguars- It doesn’t matter if he loses a few carries or not, Drew is a monster. He not only runs the ball as good as any back in the league, but catches passes as well and has a nose for the end zone. He is pretty much the whole Jaguars offense, and QB David Garrard doesn’t mind spreading the ball around to his WR’s and TE’s and relying on Jones-Drew to carry most of the load. Better not leave him off your own fantasy football cheatsheet.

4.    RB Ray Rice/Ravens- Although Willis McGahee will probably still see his share of touches, Rice still has enough talent to be a top 5 fantasy player. The offensive line is good enough to open some holes and Rice is good enough to get through and make people miss. The addition of Anquan Boldin at WR to team with Derrick Mason and depth added behind Todd Heap at TE with rookies  Ed Dickson and Dennis Pitta will not only have QB Joe Flacco salivating, but open up more holes for Rice in the running game as well. Oh yeah, and in case you forgot, he catches passes too.

5.    WR Brandon Marshall/Dolphins- As long as QB Chad Pennington can stay healthy, Marshall could have his best season yet, which is pretty scary. If the Dolphins offensive line can keep Pennington healthy, Marshall should see quite a few touchdowns coming his way. WR Devone Bess is getting better every year, and the Dolphins haven’t had a bonafide number one WR like Marshall for a long time. Marshall is out to prove something to the Broncos, and with Bill Parcells running things in Miami you know Marshall won’t be around for long if he doesn’t live up to his billing.

6.    WR DeSean Jackson/Eagles- Even though McNabb is gone, Jackson is a tough weapon to defend. QB ‘s Kevin Kolb or Michael Vick just have to get him the ball and he will make things happen. While it is not normal to have a bunch of WR’s in the top 10, Jackson and the rest of these guys have changed the way drafts are going to go in 2010. Jackson and these others have the rare ability to score every game, making their fantasy value a tremendous one.

7.    RB Adrian Peterson/Vikings- While Peterson is still an elite fantasy player, the addition of talented rookie RB Toby Gerhart won’t affect his value a lot, but could affect him just enough to move him down a few slots. The potent Brett Favre led passing game will also put up a lot of points, and although it doesn’t mean Peterson will suffer greatly, he may not be the number one choice anymore.

8.    RB Frank Gore/49ers- No matter how good TE Vernon Davis or WR’s Michael Crabtree and Josh Morgan get, Gore is the main focus of the offense. With an improving offensive line and passing game , Gore should be able to put up some fantastic fantasy numbers once again.

9.    WR Larry Fitzgerald/Cardinals- With QB Kurt Warner now retired and WR Anquan Boldin in Baltimore, the Cardinals will likely look to Fitzgerald even more this season. Fitzgerald is a threat to score every game he plays and is worthy of a top ten fantasy pick.

10.    And now to wrap up my May fantasy football cheatsheet I give you WR Randy Moss/Patriots- With Brady now fully healthy again and a good offensive line to protect him, Moss should again have no problem eclipsing double figures in TD’s and more than 1000 yards in the air. A big factor is how fast fellow WR Wesley Welker can return to make things easier on Moss. Providing a quick and healthy return for Welker, Moss should again be among the fantasy elite.

While I have never had this many WR’s in my top 10 before, I really haven’t done a fantasy football cheatsheet this early in the season, so it will likely change by the time my real cheatsheets are ready sometime next month and the months beyond. What do you want for early May? Don’t worry, more will be coming soon.
