What Time Is It? Where Is Shad Gaspard?
With a slew of talent being pushed into the main event and towards titles, one WWE veteran seemed to be getting similar treatment in the coming weeks.
However, Shad Gaspard has not been seen on television in over a month. His last appearance was on the May 14 edition of Smackdown, when he defeated a local competitor in a squash match.
After his feud with his former tag team partner, JTG, Shad hasn't been given anything new. While squash matches are fine in elevating a person, at some point, there needs to be an actual competitive match down the line.
The common belief is that Shad has been sent to FCW to work on his gimmick and wrestling move set. Shad was seen in FCW attacking NXT rookie Eli Cottonwood at the end of May.
After attacking Cottonwood, Gaspard was heard saying things along the lines of "that's how it's done," which brought rumors of Shad becoming an NXT Pro. Instead, Shad was just making an impact in his FCW debut.
It's about time that they give the heel Shad an impactful altercation, although it's unfortunate that it had to happen in FCW and not somewhere in the main roster. Outside of squash matches, I cannot recall an actual match for the new Shad in WWE against anyone not named JTG.
Shad was clearly absent during the battle royal featuring the entire Smackdown roster. If you had told me which wrestler I would see in the match— I would have bet the farm on the latter.
While other tag team members have broken away with their own solid gimmicks (The Brian Kendrick comes to mind recently), Shad has not even been given the platform to strengthen his character. The only promos that he has cut since his heel turn are full of him telling everyone that it is "My Tyme."
Yes, we get it. Their tag team was Cryme Tyme, so you're going off of that name. Cool.
What's not cool is the fact that JTG has been featured almost weekly on Smackdown . The entire point of Shad breaking up the tag team was for Shad to get a singles push, while there was nothing for JTG to do.
Translation: get ready to wish JTG well in his future endeavors.
However, the most shocking aspect to this topic is that JTG has been featured on an almost weekly basis. Be it Superstars or Smackdown , JTG is being given the exposure that Shad was practically promised.
Whenever they feel that Shad is ready to return to the main roster, the creative staff should give Shad a good storyline to make up for the lack of a push the first time around.
After all, there still isn't anyone who has been named as the one who took out The Undertaker...Hint, hint...
