Here are my #3, 4 and 5 Fantasy Football Draft List Tips that can help you become a winner in 2010.
Here is a tip that many so-called fantasy football experts donโt even touch upon, but it is something that can give you a big advantage if you are aware of it. This one has to do with the Tight Endโs and itโs sort of a two part tip.
First of all, Iโll cover the easy part of this tip:
#3a.ย Donโt ever draft a backup Tight End
This is wasting a roster spot that you can use to store a valuable RB, WR, or QB. Depending on who your TE is, when their bye comes up you can cut them to pick up another TE for the week or just cut the worst player on your team and pick up a TE for the week. Drafting two tight ends for your roster is much like drafting two kickers, itโs nothing but a waste of a roster spot.
#3b. Build your team with the best RBโs and WRโs available
The second part of this tip has to do with actually drafting a TE. If someone else beats you to one of the top five Tight Endโs, then wait it out and build your team with the best RBโs and WRโs available until one of your last three or four picks. Even Tony Gonzalez wasnโt as dominant as he normally is last year, but after Vernon Davis, Dallas Clark, Antonio Gates, and Brent Celek,ย the next 12 TEโs, including Gonzalez, averaged between around 5 and 7 points per game. This means you could have had any one of them and your team would have experienced similar results.
#4. Donโt base your entire draft on last years numbers.
While last yearโs results tell some of the story, donโt base your whole draft on last yearโs numbers. If things stayed the same every year, the draft would be easy for everyone. There are a number of factors that will affect how a certain player may improve or decline each year. Have they been able to stay healthy? Does the team have a new QB? Did they lose offensive lineman or did their offensive line get better? Is their schedule going to be easier or harder than last year?ย Last yearโs numbers may not be a bad place to start, but if you rank your players this way when you are getting ready for your draft, youโll likely end up regretting your draft strategy very quickly.
#5.ย Donโt get caught up in โhandcuffingโ
When building a Fantasy Football draft list many so called fantasy football โexpertsโ recommend drafting the backup of your starting RBโs in case they get hurt. That is a fine strategy if they happen to be the best RB left on the board, but this is rare.
Think about it this way: Are you going to pass up on a starting RB on another team just to pick someone who may see only limited action, at best? Chances are very good that if your starter gets hurt, his backup will be available to pick up as a free agent.
Donโt waste a valuable pick on someone you will only be able to use if someone else gets hurt. If I say it enough, maybe youโll remember it, so here we go again: Draft the best players available to build the best team possible.
I hope this gives you a great head start for your 2010 fantasy football season. Keep these tips in mind and you should have a very successful fantasy football season this year.
