Rip Roaring Robbie Keane Returns To Spurs, Hopefully To Prove a Point
His return is inevitable. His skill is apparent. His wife...wow.
Since Harry sent Keane out on loan in December, he has rediscovered his goalscoring form. And just in time.
Spurs secured qualification for the Champions League knockout rounds, but with little help from our strikers.
In the final six games of the season only Crouch and Defoe managed to get on the score sheet, and Defoe's goal was a penalty, that, yes it is safe to say now, really should not have been given.
Granted Crouch's goal against City was the glyph key to finishing fourth, it was more of a "right place, right time" moment. Though that bit of luck is just what Spurs needed.
In 16 games in the SPL for the Hoops, Robbie scored 12, not including the four in the Scottish Cup.
It was treatment that the doctor ordered.
The striker situation doesn't look bleak, so much as murky.
Eidur Gudjohnsen appears to be on his way. Monaco have stated they will not be releasing him, while Harry has claimed he wants him back.
If that is the case Keane will have a much more difficult return.
Even though he isn't my favorite, and at times this season I have criticized how he changes our style of play, Crouch is a keeper for numerous reasons.
He has experience in the competition. In fact he came on in the 78th minute in the final in Athens in 2007, so he has seen it all.
He has the hunger. The last few games, whether he started or was subbed, he was all over the pitch. Tracking back to defend, fighting for every loose ball.
And hell, that HEIGHT?! I unfairly accused him of transforming our style into the long ball, but in all actuality, how can you not aim for a target that's nearly a foot above the rest? Not to mention that heading ability.
In the way of Jermaine Defoe, you can never rule the guy out. He works very hard and while the goals haven't been in his favor, it is only a matter of time.
He has always been a streaky player, but this season that looked to be behind him. He'll be ready and firing when the time comes.
I'll talk less about Pavlyuchenko. He stays. He has been the hardest working striker in Lilywhite in 2010 and I believe he is going to really come into his own in the next two years.
Whatever happens, happens though I guess.
All in all the return of Keane is going to impact Tottenham for the good. He, too, has a little Champions League experience, even scoring a goal while at Inter.
He will be back to replace Eidur, but with confidence he was lacking before.
Tottenham is his home away from Dublin and he will return with the utmost respect from the boys and the fans alike.
And hey, who knows what would have happened against Burnley last Sunday, maybe Keano could have put up four again!
Welcome home again Robbie. Again.
