UFC 113 Results: Why Paul Daley Should Be Thrown Out of the UFC
Paul Daley is no ordinary fighter. Sure, he's a powerful striker and has taken care of his fair share of grapplers in the cage. More importantly, though, he represents all the British fighters looking to make names for themselves in MMA and especially the UFC.
After taking a swing at Josh Koscheck after the fight had ended, Daley not only deserves a fine but outright expulsion from the UFC. The reasoning: he represents more than himself and can do a lot more damage than good.
Other than a weird, apparently fake eye injury, Koscheck's game at UFC 113 was sound. Koscheck smothered the striker Daley, thus nullifying all his offensive output and winning a well earned decision victory.
Daley's response? Wait until the ref stops the fight and then throw an illegal haymaker at his victorious opponent.
Granted Michael Bisping and Dan Hardy have run their mouths and played mind games with their past opponents, neither of them have take an illegal swing at another fighter. When the fight is finished, the fight is finished, and Daley must be held to the same standard all other fighters are held to.
Had Daley won, he would have proudly represented all British fighters and their potential in the UFC. This representation doesn't stop at winning, though. In his loss to Koscheck, Daley displayed nothing more than a childish fit that will likely cost him and, unfortunately, probably cost the reputation of other British fighters.
UFC fans must remember that Daley is one fighter out of many burgeoning British fighters, but that doesn't mean that fans will exactly be open to giving them an untarnished chance at credibility.
His action was reprehensible, and it could have ended in a similar way to the recent Strikeforce brawl had Koscheck followed up. Luckily, though, the American Koscheck had enough dignity to restrain himself and take the victory with class.
As for Daley, let's hope his actions don't mar other British fighters. He should be banned from competing in the UFC in order to further prevent such negative association. So much for British sophistication.
