Browns Ranked 27th in ESPN Power Rankings, Colt McCoy Should Sit in 2010

Robert CobbMay 2, 2010

When ESPN columnist Jeffri Chadiha says that your best acquisition was executive Mike Holmgren, then you know you're in trouble. Ouch!

Chadiha has the Cleveland Browns ranked 27th in the inital ESPN Power Rankings preseason and were voted on by a panel of John "Chicken Little" Clayton, Jeff Chadiha, Paul Kuharsky, and Mike Sando. Criteria used were the use of offseason moves, 2010 NFL Draft, and how a team finished last year.

Chadiha, who covers both the AFC North and NFC North would go on to add that, "The third-round selection of QB Colt McCoy will help down the road," which could very well be true.

Depending on which Browns fan you talk to, the best move in the offseason could be the hiring of Mike Holmgren and bringing in Tom Heckert from the Eagles. It's been so long since we have seen the Browns have a solid and competent front office, we might have a case of amnesia.

We all know that Delhomme is a stop-gap for McCoy to eventually take over under center and although Holmgren has stated that McCoy will not play in 2010, according to Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer , Mangini thinks that McCoy may see some action this coming season.

Personally, I really hope that the Browns do whatever it takes to keep McCoy from starting because the last thing Cleveland needs to do is scar another young quarterback like they did to Tim Couch.

Granted this is 2010 and not 1999, but the Browns would not be doing McCoy any favors with a suspect right side of an offensive line and a inconsistent corps of wide receivers who could possibly lose their most consistent player in Mike Furrey to Chicago as reported by ESPNChicago.

McCoy needs to sit in 2010 and learn like Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers did in Green Bay, because the West Coast offense is a very complex and dynamic offensive system which will play to his strengths such as his reported accuracy, which has been the buzz at mini-camp so far.

Let's hope that the Browns can raise that measly No. 27 ranking up to No. 1 and work McCoy in gradually.

One last thing, I will be hosting a sports-talk show on BlogTalkRadio.com called "Gametyme" which will be on every Saturday at 6pm EST, 3pm PST, and all are welcome to call in at (347) 857-4532.
