Today (1912 & 1916): Baseball Stadiums will never be the same
April 20 is a pretty significant day in baseball stadium history. On this day in 1912, the Boston Red Sox played their inaugural game at the one and only Fenway Park. Though much has been added to the stadium in the 98 years since it debuted, the famous items including the Green Monster have been in place since Day 1 (although it wasn’t green and wasn’t called a “Monster”).
Just four years later on the same day, the Chicago Cubs played their first game in what would come to be known as Wrigley Field. It’s hard to confirm but we’re confident that 94 years ago, the outfield bleachers were filled with Wrigley’s most notable feature – drunken meatheads…
