The Time Is Now: Ticket Sales Open In South Africa, Fifa World Cup 2010
With the World Cup just under two months away, the country is filled with excitement and anticipation in hosting the biggest showpiece in the sporting calendar.
The final phase of ticketing sales open today in South Africa, with over-the-counter sales. In the previous phases sales were conducting via the Internet, through a application based process or through FNB Banks but also via a application process.
The current and final phase is "first-come-first-serve", tickets are issued immediately depending on availability.
The LOC (local organising committee) said 500,00 tickets where to go on sale as of 9:00 this morning (CAT).
With already two million tickets sold, FIFA are hoping to fill the stadiums in all provinces. With many top teams having excellent sales, the problem been the smaller unknown nations who don't attract the crowds.
In many local reports, people have been queuing since yesterday (Wednesday, 14) in anticipation for the doors to open at the eleven ticketing centers and 600 FNB Branches.
Police and Security are on high alert as frustration grew after the System crashed in the early parts of the morning. But since then sales are increasing as the demand is huge amongst locals to get their tickets.
The last phase of the ticketing sales indicates the reality of the World Cup coming to South Africa.
The Last week of May will see the 31 teams arriving in South Africa, as they will base themselves in preparation for the showpiece.
