Santonio Holmes To Jets For 5th Rounder : C'mon Man
Another outrageous deal happened this month, thus creating even more hatred towards general managers and organizations.
According to NFL.com, the Pittsburgh Steelers have traded Super Bowl XLIII MVP and star receiver, Santonio Holmes, to the New York Jets for a 5th round pick in this years' NFL Draft.
Here is what NFL.com wrote regarding this trade :

2025 Draft Picks Ready For Leap 🐸

Jaguars' Hypothetical Alvin Kamara Trade Offer
"The Pittsburgh Steelers traded wide receiver Santonio Holmes to the New York Jets late Sunday night for a fifth-round draft pick in this month's NFL draft.
Holmes, the MVP of Super Bowl XLIII, is facing a four-game suspension for his actions in regards to the substance abuse policy, according to a source. The Steelers have grown troubled with some off-field concerns and had no intention of giving Holmes an extension.
His deal is up following the 2010 season and he is likely to get a new deal from the Jets at some point.
Holmes and his agent, Joel Segal, were not granted permission to talk to other teams, and thus did not begin any talks on an extension with the Steelers, according to league sources. They only found out about the trade late Sunday night.
The immediate reaction with some executives was that despite their concerns with Holmes' behavior, it was surprising the Steelers did not get at least a third-round pick in return, with teams like Washington, Miami, Tampa Bay and Carolina among those in need of a wide receiver."
While the McNabb trade seemed mark the end of stupidity around the league, there had to be one more surprise...at least for the time being. Could this mean the Steelers will try to pull something with Ben Rothlisberger? I don't think so.
To me, Holmes is a pretty good player. Regardless of the incident he caused off the field, he is worth more than a 5th rounder. Unless the Steelers have something to support this outrage of a trade, I don't believe the trade was even remotely smart on Pittsburghs' side.
Going back to Big Ben. Some say he should be next, while I believe it very well COULD happen after these wild chain of events, I doubt it. He's in a large contract and the Steelers would lose more than they would gain if they decided to cut him.
Meanwhile, the Jets seem destined to make another playoff push. With a legitimate receiver on their offense, New York looks to have things running smoother on offense. Although losing a personal favorite running back of mine, Thomas Jones, may hurt the running attack if Greene doesn't step up.
In my opinion, the Pittsburgh Steelers have me dumbfounded on this trade, while the Jets look like they're in it to win it.
