UFC 111 Results: Georges St. Pierre's “Riddum” Proves Too Much for Dan Hardy
Capping off an exciting night of fights in New Jersey, UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre defended his title in a five round domination of game challenger Dan Hardy.
From the get go it was clear that St. Pierre wanted no part of the perceived power that Dan Hardy has in his hands. Instead St. Pierre took Hardy into his world—the ground.
St. Pierre took Hardy down at will and controlled him on the canvas for all five rounds; earning a unanimous decision victory.
St. Pierre’s victory was extremely impressive. But because he was unable to end the fight early should we being to question his ability to finish?
Of course not! St. Pierre’s inability to finish was not for a lack of trying, rather it was a testament to Dan Hardy’s grit and toughness.
Late in the first round St. Pierre caught a deep armbar and Hardy fought through the pain and the strain to escape the hold.
While Hardy displayed the will of a champion it was not enough to contend with the technically sound and determined St. Pierre.
What’s next for St. Pierre?
Jon Fitch certainly has a solid case. But, due to his lackluster style he may get passed over for someone with a bit more flash.
If the winner of the upcoming bout between Josh Koscheck and Paul Daley end the fight in spectacular fashion there is a good chance that they could leap frog the more deserving Fitch.
After that, assuming St. Pierre is successful; things get a bit hazy because St. Pierre has basically cleaned out the division.
Perhaps a move to middleweight is in order?
