Who Is the New Thierry Henry of Arsenal?

Maxx GMar 25, 2010

Before going to the answer, let's take a look at the following.

Arsene Wenger's Arsenal is at the the third position in the Premier League this season, with Manchester United and Chelsea at the top. With just seven games left, there is a great chance for the gunners to go and win the silverware for their club this season.

Captain Fabregas is in scintillating form and the whole young team is playing tooth and nail to win in every match. However, the team has been plagued by injuries and, especially Wenger's side, need a man upfront.

The replacements for the injured Robin Van Persie was Eduardo (who got injured afterwards) and then Niklas Bendtner (presently out for injury). So, the coach will be hopefully playing Eduardo in the next match against Birm City and it is a doubt how much Eduardo can contribute to the team with his current below average form.

Now going years back, Arsenal's legend was Thierry Henry. This man knew how to silence the opponents and has scored plenty of goals for his team. The 2005-06 season proved to be a remarkable one for Henry. On Oct. 17, 2005, Henry became Arsenal's top goal-scorer of all time and he scored 262 goals in 369 matches for Arsenal.

Undoubtedly, Thierry Henry was the heart of Arsenal and it will not be wrong if we name him the GOD.

Coming to present, Arsene Wenger was keen on signing the Nice striker Loic Remy for Arsenal in January but unfortunately it did not work out. Remy has revealed that he still envisions himself playing at Arsenal next season, despite having witnessed a move in January collapse due to the price negotiation problems that cropped up.

Coming to the answer, it is Loic Remy who is called to be the new Thierry Henry of Arsenal.

Remy primarily plays in the lead striker role, but also operates in the winger and CAM positions. He is a former France Under-21 international player and currently plays for the senior team having earned his first cap on June 2, 2009 against Nigeria.

Remy has hit the back of the net for his team 11 times in 28 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit this season.

Loic Remy is a top quality youngster; he is tall, tough, and just fit for the English football. Remy is in the form of his life and no doubt the Nice player is thrilled to be linked with a move to North London and clearly there are a few big clubs circling this player.

With that in mind, the French side Nice can slap a pretty hefty price on his head and one that could well cause Arsene Wenger to reconsider his wishes of going for this forward. Still, Wenger is always good and at his best when it comes to signing French players—we have seen that time and again.

The 22-year-old is aware of Wenger's interest and has been in talks with his France teammates Abou Diaby and Bacary Sagna about the life at the Emirates. With interest also coming from AC Milan, Lyon, and Bordeaux, Arsenal are likely to have to pay upwards of £14 million for the forward, but will he be worth the price?

"Arsenal are the club I want to join. I won't deny they are my priority," said Remy, who has been advised to link up with Wenger by Thierry Henry, thus confirming his interests to join Wenger's dream team.

Among the other options available is the 26-year-old Moroccan, Marouane Chamakh, whose 13 goals helped his club win the French title last season, is heavily rumoured to be joining Arsenal in June.

Chamakh becomes a free agent in the summer and has reportedly denied the advances of moving to another EPL club, Liverpool, to finally end Arsenal's chase for his signature.

Wenger has reportedly landed Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh on a £10.4 million, four-year deal for his team for the next season.

However, it's more often a curse than a blessing to be dubbed the “New Anything,” be it Messi/Henry/Zidane, and Loic Remy’s ability to be a fraction of the player Thierry Henry has been is yet to be proved.

Today, in this era of modern football, are we doing a justice to the young players or the legends by calling every new talent by the name of the "New" this and that? Tomorrow, a youngster scores a hat-trick and we call him the New Pele.

We hope that day will be very soon when players will create their own legends and will be called by their own names and not by the predecessors.

In Wenger, the Gooners trust.
