Arsenal Should Use Chelsea's Exit From the CL To Its Advantage

Mohamed Eldin MasriMar 16, 2010

Finally, the moment Arsenal have been waiting for has finally arrived.

Chelsea have been eliminated out of the Champions League by Inter Milan, and by none other than their former coach Jose Mourinho, who has proved himself right after all those comments about Chelsea struggling without him.

While almost the entire Arsenal world will rejoice, seeing how Arsenal can use this to their advantage in more ways than one.

Chelsea entered the game with many key defensive players missing.

Chelsea were without the services of Cech, Carvalho, Bosingwa, Ashely Cole, and Essien, and their absence proved fatal.

Chelsea lacked the one thing they needed most entering this game.

Creativity.

Despite the Chelsea fans bragging on and on about how they've beaten Arsenal, it was simply because Arsenal is an attacking team.  The Gunners were always more dominant on the ball, while Chelsea played on the counter attack and just created two or more chances during the entire game.

But Chelsea never had the pleasure to play against a team that resembles their own style of play.

Inter Milan didn't play attacking football, they just waited for Chelsea to knock on their door, but Chelsea couldn't deliver.

Inter were a class above Chelsea in the second half of the match, and Chelsea barely even created chances.

Inter played on the counter, and in a single moment of brilliance, Sneijder, who is easily considered as the man of the match found Eto'o, and the Cameroonian made no mistakes in converting the ball in the back of the net.

The Blues played against a Chelsea-like side, and were not able to create any chances at all in the final 10 minutes of the game.

Chelsea are now mentally broken, half their squad is injured defensively, and have a few key fixtures coming in the next few weeks.

Arsenal and Manchester United can now go for the killer blow; if there is a time for Chelsea to drop points, it is now, and with Chelsea expected to play against Villa, Liverpool, United, and Tottenham.

While Arsenal and Manchester United have a few hard games of their own, Chelsea are definitely the ones who are under the most pressure.

After all the crazy money that Chelsea have spent over the Abramovich era, Chelsea still haven't won the Champions League trophy, and getting eliminated at the first stage of the knockout stages is a massive blow.

Chelsea are now the ones with the most to lose in the league, a game in hand, and they are expected to win all three points, while Arsenal and Manchester United are still biting at their heels.

The Gunners should take advantage of this situation, as they easily won't get any chance better than this one when it comes to Chelsea, and with Manchester United still going strong, Arsenal will hope that when the Blues and the Reds face each other, the result ends as a draw, giving Arsenal an even bigger chance to challenge for the title.

Arsenal expect Fabregas to be back with the team to play against West Ham next Saturday, and Arsenal will look to get all three points and try to take as many points as possible from all their upcoming games.

With Arshavin fit, Bendtner finally starting to be on song, Nasri getting more creative by each passing game, and of course the signing of the 2009 season, Thomas Vermaelen, in the Arsenal defence, Arsenal for the first time in a long time look like having enough players to scrap their way to the end of the tunnel.

And maybe lift the EPL trophy come May.

Last but not least, this should be considered as a testament to all Chelsea fans, as well as other fans in the footballing world, that Arsenal are no longer babies, but are maturing men.

Had you asked anyone who watches football, that only two English teams would remain in the quarterfinal stages of the tournament, who would those two teams be, they would've chosen either Manchester United, Chelsea, or Liverpool, and Arsenal would've been branded as a "No cup team" and a "No trophies" team.

Arsenal, along with Manchester United, are the only English survivors in the Champions League as it stands, and they are still in the hunt for the title.

Arsenal are proving all critics and haters wrong.

And most important of all, you don't need to spend crazy money to win trophies and make things happen.

Chelsea and Real Madrid are out, despite all the money they've spent, Arsenal have a chance to make history this season, and if they win either one of the trophies, they will shut the critics and haters once and for all.

This might be the Gunner's year after all.
