Ridiculous: Cesar Arzo Says Cristiano Ronaldo Insults with "Stupid" Tricks

Angela AsanteMar 16, 2010

Does it sound intelligent for a defender to think that a player’s style of play can be insulting? Well, this opinion is shared by Valladolid defender Cesar Arzo who came in support of his teammate Nivaldo.

Actually, the whole story started last Sunday when Cristiano Ronaldo became the victim of a nasty foul during Real Madrid’s game away to Valladolid.

After surviving a couple of dangerous moments, Los Blancos managed to lead 1-0 thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s 27th minute free-kick.

Apparently, the hosts felt the pressure mounting and defender Nivaldo "took charge" of pouring the anger and the frustration on the most dangerous player on the field, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Inside the 41st minute of the game, cameras captured Nivaldo trying to kick the ball out of Ronaldo’s legs. The defender then used his left arm to push Ronaldo’s back and let him fall to the ground. Nivaldo then stamped with his right foot on Cristiano Ronaldo’s left leg before pursuing his chase for the ball that had already rolled away.

In protest, CR9 showed the open wounds on his leg but the referee wasn’t impressed and Nivaldo ran away without a card.

Coming in defense of his team mate, Cesar Arzo told the media in an interview:

“A player has great as Ronaldo is shouldn’t be doing such stupid things on the pitch.”

According to Goal.com , Cesar Arzo wasn’t talking about Cristiano Ronaldo’s body language but rather about Cristiano Ronaldo’s distinctive style of play which includes tricks, flicks, and step overs.

“He insulted many of us in doing that,” Cesar Arzo continued.

Strange opinion there…

Maybe Valladolid defenders should back up in training and learn how to defend like professionals instead of taking one’s style of play as an excuse to hide their mediocrity.

And for those who think that it is normal for a defender to be provoked by tricks and flicks and subsequently react so recklessly, then WWF might be the right sport for them, not soccer!
