Did Manny Pacquiao Win in Dallas, Or Did Clottey Give It Away?
Manny Pacquiao fought a great fight against Joshua Clottey. His best to date I would say but I have to tell you that Joshua Clottey may have given this fight away.
He fought like he always does with his defense up and throwing minimal punches per round. Manny did his thing and threw 90 or more punches per round. That is how they fight and that’s fine.
The problem with that is Joshua Clottey could not win doing that. No way no how, could he pick up the win. When your trainer is begging you to take chances and you won’t you don’t stand a chance.
Clottey did what he said he was going to and that is leave his defense up and let Pacquiao tire himself out. One problem Manny Pacquiao does not tire himself out.
Clottey even had some success throwing right hands. He had more success than David Diaz, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, and Miguel Cotto. He just didn’t throw enough of them.
This strategy works against lesser fighters but not against the No. 1 pound for pound fighter. Clottey was up against the beast that’s for sure but he never gave himself a chance to win.
I thought his mental sate was good going into this fight but boy was I wrong. Whatever the reason was he just refused to throw his hands.
His strategy was to use defense which I said is fine, but when you are down sever, right, or nine round to the best fighter in the world you might want to get busy. Well he never did get busy and was blown out on the cards.
Maybe those reasons were Pacquiao’s relentless punching, superior power, or his body punching. With all I said about Clottey, Pacquiao didn’t make it easy for him.
He knew he couldn’t hit the chin so he banged to the body again and again. He took chances because he knew nothing was coming back and if something did come back it was one shot at a time.
If Clottey gave up the fight it was because Pacquiao was better. His strategy was nearly flawless. He knew he couldn’t hit the chin so he went to the body and he knew he was going 12 hard rounds so he was conditioned for it.
He was ready to go 12 rounds and threw 90 or more each round. He did exactly what he had to do and got the win for doing it.
He controlled every second of this fight and never gave Clottey a real chance to get into the fight. He didn’t knock anybody out tonight but this was his best performance.
He came in with a great strategy and executed it perfectly. He took Clottey’s fighting spirit and he took his heart tonight.
This is why he is the best in the world. Its not because he knocks everyone out, its because he knows what he has to do and he does it perfectly.
He didn’t get flustered or rush things, he did exactly to a T what he needed to do. That is why we are watching one of the all time greats. Congratulations Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, now go get Floyd Mayweather.
